STWF Sports | DALLAS, Texas | August 7, 2026 — The Dallas Wings return to Texas on Friday night for another high-profile matchup at American Airlines Center, hosting the Golden State Valkyries in a nationally televised contest.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT on ION, with Ron Thulin handling play-by-play duties alongside analyst Fran Harris and sideline reporter Alexis Davis.
Dallas enters the matchup at 19-12, while Golden State comes to Dallas at 21-9. Friday marks the Wings’ second of three scheduled games at American Airlines Center this season and their first appearance there since the organization announced the arena will host the club’s entire 2027 home schedule.
The Importance of the Dallas Wings in the WNBA
The Wings are 1-0 at AAC this season after earning a 96-91 victory over the Chicago Sky on July 12.
Dallas will look to rebound from a difficult 96-92 road loss to the Washington Mystics on Wednesday. The Wings led by as many as 20 points before Washington mounted a late comeback, turning a comfortable Dallas advantage into a four-point defeat.
Despite the result, Jessica Shepard and Alanna Smith both delivered standout performances.
Shepard matched her career high with 22 points while adding 11 rebounds, a game-high seven assists and one steal. Smith finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds while also contributing one assist, two steals and three blocks.
That frontcourt production could be critical against a Golden State team that has established itself as one of the league’s stronger clubs this season.
The Valkyries already own one victory over Dallas in 2026, defeating the Wings 91-80 on June 17 in San Francisco. Golden State has now won four consecutive regular-season meetings in the series, while Dallas’ most recent victory over the Valkyries came in the teams’ first-ever matchup on June 17, 2025.
Friday offers the Wings an opportunity to reverse that trend on a bigger stage.
Golden State arrives with momentum after taking consecutive games from the Toronto Tempo on Aug. 2 and Aug. 4 in San Francisco. The Valkyries earned a 92-81 win Tuesday, led by Janelle Salaun’s 21-point performance.
Golden State has been especially impressive at home, posting a league-best 13-4 record, but the Valkyries have also proven capable away from San Francisco with an 8-5 road mark.
For Dallas, the matchup will likely come down to maintaining consistency for a full 40 minutes.
The Wings showed Wednesday how dangerous they can be when their offense is clicking, scoring 59 first-half points against Washington. But their inability to close out the game also highlighted the importance of defensive rebounding, late-game execution and limiting momentum-changing runs.
Against Golden State, those areas become even more important.
The Valkyries have enough offensive balance and defensive discipline to punish prolonged stretches of mistakes, meaning Dallas will need contributions throughout the rotation. Shepard and Smith are coming off strong performances, while Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale remain central to the Wings’ perimeter attack.
The atmosphere should also add another layer to the matchup.
With Dallas preparing to make American Airlines Center its full-time home in 2027, every appearance there this season offers another preview of the franchise’s future. A strong showing against one of the league’s top teams would only add to that momentum.
Friday night gives the Wings a chance to do more than simply bounce back from a tough road loss.
It is an opportunity to defend their temporary downtown home, snap Golden State’s winning streak in the series and make a statement against one of the strongest teams on their schedule.
