STWF Sports | ARLINGTON, Texas | May 18, 2026 — The Dallas Wings finally delivered the complete performance they had been searching for.
Dallas Wings: A Team on the Rise
Behind balanced scoring, aggressive defense and a breakout night from several key contributors, Dallas rolled past the Washington Mystics 92-69 Monday night at a sold-out College Park Center to earn its first home victory of the 2026 WNBA season.
The win improved Dallas to 2-2 overall while snapping a two-game losing streak and closing out the Wings’ three-game homestand with momentum heading into a road trip.
Most importantly, the performance showcased the offensive rhythm and defensive intensity head coach Jose Fernandez has been pushing for during the season’s opening weeks.
Five Wings players finished in double figures, and Dallas overwhelmed Washington with ball movement, transition offense and relentless defensive pressure from the opening tip.
Leading the charge once again was Paige Bueckers.
The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year continued her remarkable start to the season with 18 points, seven assists and four made three-pointers, helping control the pace offensively throughout the night.
Bueckers also extended her active streak of games with at least 15 points and two assists to nine consecutive contests — currently the longest streak in the WNBA.
Her command of the offense was evident early.
After Dallas forced multiple Washington turnovers during the opening quarter, Bueckers consistently pushed the tempo and found teammates in transition while also knocking down timely perimeter shots.
The Wings quickly established momentum behind their defense.
Dallas forced eight turnovers in the opening quarter alone while holding Washington to just 20 percent shooting from the floor.
That defensive energy fueled a fast 19-9 lead after one quarter and completely shifted the tone inside College Park Center.
Veteran star Arike Ogunbowale provided the early spark offensively.
Ogunbowale scored seven first-quarter points, including a transition steal and aggressive drives to the basket that immediately put pressure on Washington’s defense. She finished with 16 points, three assists and a season-high three steals while continuing to serve as Dallas’ emotional leader on both ends of the floor.
Meanwhile, rookie Azzi Fudd delivered her best professional performance to date.
The former UConn standout energized the home crowd the moment she checked into the game midway through the first quarter and immediately buried a corner jumper to ignite a Dallas scoring run.
Fudd finished with a career-high 12 points along with three assists and a steal in 24 minutes off the bench.
Her confidence offensively continued growing throughout the game as she attacked off the dribble, knocked down midrange shots and showed improved defensive activity.
The chemistry between Fudd and Bueckers — former college teammates at University of Connecticut — also flashed repeatedly during the second half.
Dallas continued building separation in the third quarter behind a balanced offensive attack.
Ogunbowale opened the half aggressively, scoring seven of the Wings’ first nine points while helping stretch the lead into double digits.
Then the frontcourt took over.
Jessica Shepard controlled the glass all night, recording a massive double-double with 12 points, 16 rebounds and six assists without committing a turnover.
Her 16 rebounds tied Angel Reese for the highest single-game rebounding total in the WNBA this season.
Shepard also became just one of six players in league history to record at least 12 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and zero turnovers in a game.
Dallas’ ball movement was equally impressive.
The Wings finished with a season-high 30 assists — tied for the fifth-most in franchise regular-season history — consistently creating open shots through sharp passing and effective pick-and-roll execution.
The outside shooting finally matched the offensive flow as well.
Dallas knocked down 11-of-24 from three-point range while Washington hit only five triples all night.
Forward Maddy Siegrist added 10 points and two three-pointers off the bench, while Aziaha James helped close out the victory with a strong fourth quarter.
Washington never fully recovered after the opening defensive pressure.
Shakira Austin led the Mystics with 12 points, while rookie center Lauren Betts added 11 points in limited minutes off the bench.
But Dallas dominated the game’s energy from start to finish.
The Wings led for 97 percent of the contest and pushed the advantage to as many as 25 points during the second half.
Now Dallas heads into a three-game road trip with renewed confidence and signs that the roster is beginning to fully click together offensively.
And after Monday night’s statement victory, the Wings finally looked like a team capable of becoming a serious problem in the WNBA.
