STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | May 30, 2026 — FC Dallas will have a stronger presence than ever on soccer’s biggest stage this summer.
Defender Herman Johansson has been selected to represent Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, giving FC Dallas three active players on World Cup rosters for the first time in club history. Johansson joins forward Petar Musa, who was called up by Croatia, and winger Don Deedson Louicius, who was selected by Haiti.
Johansson’s addition adds another major milestone to what has become a landmark year for FC Dallas on the international stage. The Swedish defender was originally named as a reserve earlier this month before being activated to the final World Cup roster.
For FC Dallas, the announcement is another example of the club’s growing global footprint. The team has long been known for developing talent and connecting players to international opportunities, but having three active players represented at the same FIFA World Cup marks a new chapter for the organization.
Herman Johansson: A Key Player for FC Dallas in the World Cup
Johansson’s journey to the World Cup has been a rapid rise.
Acquired by FC Dallas during the 2026 offseason, Johansson quickly established himself as a valuable piece in the club’s back line. Through 14 appearances, including 11 starts, he has provided stability, athleticism and attacking support from the defensive third. He is also tied for the team lead with two assists, showing his ability to impact the match beyond traditional defensive responsibilities.
His selection by Sweden comes after a strong club résumé built before his arrival in North Texas. In 2025, Johansson played a major role in Mjällby’s historic Allsvenskan title run, helping the club capture its first league championship. That season, he scored seven goals and contributed to a team that finished atop the Swedish table with 75 points.
Across five seasons with Mjällby from 2021 through 2025, Johansson made 136 appearances in all competitions, recording 17 goals and 15 assists. His consistency, production and versatility made him one of the standout players in Sweden’s domestic league before making the move to Major League Soccer.
Before his breakout with Mjällby, Johansson spent the 2020 season with Sandvikens IF in Ettan Norra, Sweden’s third tier. He made his club debut on June 14, 2020, and finished his time there with 25 appearances, nine goals and two assists.
Internationally, Johansson made his senior debut for Sweden on Nov. 18, 2025, against Slovenia in FIFA World Cup qualifying. He later remained part of the squad as Sweden secured its place in the 2026 tournament with victories over Ukraine and Poland.
Now, Johansson will step onto the World Cup stage with Sweden in Group F.
Sweden opens group play against Tunisia on June 14 at 9 p.m. CT at Monterrey Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico. The group stage continues June 20 against the Netherlands at 1 p.m. CT at Houston Stadium before Sweden closes the opening round against Japan on June 25 at 6 p.m. CT at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
That final group match could carry extra meaning for Johansson and FC Dallas supporters, with Sweden playing in the same market where Johansson now plays his club soccer.
Before the tournament begins, Sweden will play two preparation matches. The first comes against Norway on June 1 at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, followed by a June 4 matchup against Greece at Strawberry Arena in Solna, Sweden.
North Texas will also play a direct role in Sweden’s World Cup preparations. FC Dallas Stadium has been selected as Sweden’s Team Base Camp Training Site as part of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Team Base Camp program. Sweden is scheduled to arrive in North Texas on June 6 and will use the Frisco facility as its primary training and operational headquarters during the tournament.
For FC Dallas, Johansson’s call-up is more than an individual honor. It reflects the club’s increasing relevance on the international soccer map.
With Musa representing Croatia, Deedson representing Haiti and Johansson now representing Sweden, FC Dallas enters the 2026 World Cup with historic representation and a clear connection to the global game.
For Johansson, the moment completes a remarkable climb from Sweden’s third tier to Major League Soccer and now to the FIFA World Cup. For FC Dallas, it is another proud reminder that Frisco will not just host World Cup preparation — it will help send players to the tournament itself.
