MiLB Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Stung by Eighth-Inning Grand Slam in 4-1 Loss to Wichita

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas |August 21, 2026 For seven innings Friday night, the Frisco RoughRiders’ pitching staff matched Wichita zero for zero. One difficult sequence in the eighth, however, was enough to swing the game.

Latest Updates on the Frisco RoughRiders

Andrew Cossetti delivered a go-ahead grand slam after three consecutive walks, lifting the Wichita Wind Surge to a 4-1 victory over Frisco at Riders Field and extending the RoughRiders’ losing streak to four games to open the six-game series.

With Frisco using a bullpen game, right-hander Cole Stasio gave the RoughRiders exactly what they needed at the start. Stasio worked three scoreless innings, keeping Wichita off the board and giving the offense an opportunity to establish an early advantage.

Austin Roberts followed with a scoreless fourth, continuing an impressive night from the Frisco pitching staff.

Wichita starter Ty Langenberg was just as effective.

The right-hander limited the RoughRiders to one hit across five shutout innings while recording four strikeouts. Frisco struggled to generate sustained offense against Langenberg as the game remained scoreless into the middle innings.

Brock Porter entered for Frisco in the fifth and continued the pitching duel, posting consecutive scoreless frames before returning later in the game.

The decisive inning arrived in the eighth.

Porter walked the first three hitters he faced, loading the bases without recording an out. Cossetti then capitalized, driving a grand slam that immediately turned a scoreless game into a 4-0 Wichita advantage.

The four-batter stretch proved to be the difference.

Outside of that sequence, Frisco pitching was nearly flawless. The RoughRiders allowed only four hits for the entire game and surrendered no additional runs, keeping Wichita’s offense quiet for virtually the rest of the night.

The RoughRiders attempted one final rally in the ninth.

Rafe Perich doubled after already collecting a second-inning single, continuing an outstanding series at the plate. Corey Joyce followed with an RBI single to finally break through and cut Wichita’s lead to 4-1.

Frisco brought the tying run to the plate before the Wind Surge escaped the inning, stranding two RoughRiders and securing their fourth consecutive victory in the series.

Perich remained one of Frisco’s brightest offensive performers, improving to 8-for-14 in the series. His continued production has provided a spark during a difficult week for the Riders.

Dylan Dreiling also extended his impressive run.

The outfielder singled in the sixth inning to stretch his season-long hitting streak to 14 games. Dreiling has been one of the Texas League’s hottest hitters and continues to produce even as Frisco searches for a breakthrough against Wichita.

Friday’s loss represented a different challenge than the high-scoring games earlier in the series. After allowing at least eight runs in each of the previous three contests, Frisco’s pitching staff responded with one of its strongest overall performances of the week.

But on a night when offense was difficult to find, the grand slam became impossible to overcome.

The RoughRiders will get another opportunity to end the skid Saturday night at Riders Field.

Right-hander Aidan Curry (3-2, 5.08 ERA) is scheduled to start for Frisco against Wichita right-hander Chris Vallimont (2-3, 4.89).

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CT as Frisco looks to avoid a fifth consecutive loss and capture its first victory of the series.
