MiLB Preview: Frisco RoughRiders Seek Another Offensive Surge Against Naturals in Game 2 at Riders Field

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | May 6, 2026 — After erupting for 10 runs and four home runs in the series opener, the Frisco RoughRiders return to Riders Field on Wednesday afternoon looking to continue their offensive momentum against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in the second game of a six-game Texas League series.

Why the Frisco RoughRiders Are a Team to Watch in 2026

First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. as left-hander Blake Townsend takes the mound for Frisco opposite Northwest Arkansas right-hander Felix Arronde.

The RoughRiders enter the matchup riding high after a dominant 10-3 victory Tuesday morning in front of a lively Education Day crowd. Frisco improved to 15-13 on the season with the win and showcased once again why its lineup has become one of the most dangerous offenses in Double-A baseball over the last month.

Tuesday’s opener featured an offensive explosion led by Corey Joyce, Ian Moller, Dylan Dreiling and Keyber Rodriguez, while starter Josh Trentadue delivered five scoreless innings to secure his first win of the season.

The Riders have now won seven of their last 10 games and continue to climb statistically among the Texas League leaders in nearly every major offensive category.

Frisco enters Wednesday leading the Texas League in batting average (.274), hits (261), runs scored (184), slugging percentage (.465) and OPS (.831). Their 43 home runs through 28 games are already the most by a RoughRiders team at this point in a season since franchise records began in 2005.

The power surge has been impossible to ignore.

Frisco has homered in seven consecutive games and launched 17 long balls during that stretch. Tuesday’s game alone featured a 467-foot blast from Moller, the longest home run hit by a RoughRider this season.

Perhaps no player has embodied the club’s offensive turnaround more than Joyce.

After signing as a Minor League free agent in April, the infielder has quickly become one of the hottest hitters in the league. Joyce enters Wednesday batting .358 with six home runs and 14 RBIs in just 15 games with Frisco. His current home run pace has drawn comparisons to elite power hitters, averaging one homer every 10.5 plate appearances.

Marcus Lee Sang has also provided a major spark in recent weeks. Over his last 17 games, the outfielder is hitting .367 with five home runs and 17 RBIs while consistently delivering extra-base power in key situations.

Now the focus shifts to Townsend, who will look to steady the RoughRiders rotation against a Naturals lineup trying to recover after being overwhelmed in the opener.

Townsend enters the start with an 0-1 record and a 6.75 ERA, but Frisco hopes the left-hander can capitalize on the momentum created by Trentadue’s strong outing Tuesday. Establishing early command will be critical against a Northwest Arkansas team capable of generating power throughout its lineup despite Tuesday’s struggles.

Arronde takes the ball for the Naturals with a 1-1 record and a 6.00 ERA. The right-hander faces a difficult challenge against a Frisco offense that has consistently punished opposing pitching early in games.

The RoughRiders have scored 34 first-inning runs this season, the second-most in Minor League Baseball and the highest total among non-Triple-A clubs. Frisco is hitting .336 collectively in the opening inning with seven first-inning home runs already this year.

With both clubs entering the series tied in the standings, Wednesday’s matchup presents another opportunity for Frisco to create separation while continuing its climb in the Texas League South race.

If the RoughRiders continue swinging the bats the way they have over the last two weeks, they may quickly become one of the toughest lineups in all of Double-A baseball to contain.
