STWF Sports | CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas | July 11, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders will look to regain their offensive rhythm Saturday night when they face the Corpus Christi Hooks at 7:05 p.m. in the fifth game of a six-game series at Whataburger Field.
Left-hander Dylan MacLean is scheduled to start for Frisco against fellow southpaw Trey Dombroski. MacLean enters with a 6-1 record and a 4.50 ERA, while Dombroski is 2-3 with a 4.33 ERA.
The RoughRiders enter the matchup at 9-7 in the second half and 48-36 overall. Corpus Christi is 8-8 in the half and 39-46 on the season after earning a 6-1 victory Friday, its first win of the series.
Frisco captured the opening three games behind a succession of late-inning rallies, but its offense was held in check during the fourth contest. Hooks starter James Hicks limited the RoughRiders to one hit across five shutout innings, preventing one of Double-A’s most productive lineups from building any momentum.
Corpus Christi took the lead in the third inning against Frisco starter Ben Anderson with an RBI groundout. Tyler Whitaker added a solo home run in the fifth, and Joseph Sullivan’s sacrifice fly extended the Hooks’ advantage to 3-0 in the sixth.
The game remained within reach until Corpus Christi scored three times in the eighth. Frisco avoided the shutout when Corey Joyce delivered an RBI single in the ninth, but the late hit was not enough to spark another comeback.
Saturday’s matchup offers the RoughRiders an opportunity to respond behind MacLean, who has been one of the club’s most reliable starters. Frisco will also look to rediscover the power that helped it win the first three games of the series.
The RoughRiders have hit a franchise-record 110 home runs through 84 games. They have also connected for 27 homers over their past 16 contests, tied for second in the Texas League during that stretch.
Max Wagner has been especially productive in Corpus Christi. Wagner has hit six home runs in seven games at Whataburger Field this season, the most by any visiting player at the ballpark. He is one homer away from becoming the first visitor to reach seven in a season at the venue.
Rafe Perich has also supplied consistent production since joining Frisco. The infielder has eight Double-A home runs, with six either tying the game or giving the RoughRiders the lead. Frisco is 8-0 when Perich homers.
Perich is batting .412 in July with a .500 on-base percentage and a .735 slugging percentage. Since May 31, he ranks among the Texas League leaders in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging, OPS, doubles and extra-base hits.
The RoughRiders’ pitching staff will attempt to begin another dominant stretch after an unusual Friday performance. Frisco recorded only one strikeout in the loss, just the 23rd time in recorded franchise history that the club finished a game with a single strikeout.
That outing contrasted sharply with the previous nine games, when the RoughRiders led Minor League Baseball with 118 strikeouts. Even after Friday, Frisco still has 119 strikeouts over its past 10 contests.
The offensive numbers remain among the best in Double-A. Frisco ranks second at the level with 758 hits and is second in the Texas League with a .266 batting average. The RoughRiders also lead the league with 153 doubles while ranking near the top in runs, slugging percentage and OPS.
Frisco has been particularly dangerous late, leading Double-A with 181 runs in the seventh inning or later. That production helped the RoughRiders win each of the first three games of the current series after taking the decisive lead in the eighth.
The RoughRiders are 9-4 at Whataburger Field this season and have averaged 5.9 runs over 13 games in Corpus Christi. With a postseason berth already secured as the Texas League South Division first-half champion, Frisco will look to bounce back, secure another series victory and restore its offensive momentum behind MacLean.
