STWF Sports | SAN JOSE, Calif. | May 16, 2026 — FC Dallas delivered one of its biggest wins of the 2026 season Saturday night, defeating the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 at PayPal Park to secure the club’s first road victory in San Jose since July 8, 2016.
A dramatic stoppage-time goal from rising forward Sam Sarver sealed the result for Dallas, capping a resilient performance against one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
The victory improved FC Dallas to 6-4-4 on the season with 22 points, while San Jose dropped to 9-3-2 despite another strong offensive outing at home.
Dallas wasted no time setting the tone.
Midfielder Patrickson Delgado stunned the home crowd less than one minute into the match, scoring just 54 seconds after kickoff to give FC Dallas an immediate 1-0 lead.
The goal marked the fastest score of the season for Dallas and the fifth-fastest goal in club history. It also continued Delgado’s strong campaign, giving the Ecuadorian midfielder his second goal of the season and sixth career MLS goal since joining FC Dallas in 2024.
The early strike immediately shifted momentum toward Dallas and forced San Jose into chase mode throughout much of the opening half.
Still, the Earthquakes responded with pressure of their own.
San Jose pushed numbers forward aggressively and nearly found an equalizer in the 42nd minute after earning a penalty kick opportunity. But newly acquired goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois delivered one of the defining moments of the night.
Making his club debut after signing with Dallas earlier this year from CF Montréal, Sirois dove to deny the penalty and preserve Dallas’ lead heading into halftime.
The Canadian goalkeeper finished with five saves overall and became the first Canadian goalkeeper to start a match for FC Dallas.
His calm presence under pressure gave Dallas a massive emotional lift entering the second half.
Then came another milestone moment for star striker Petar Musa.
Just minutes after halftime, Musa buried his 12th goal of the season in the 49th minute following a setup from defender Herman Johansson.
The finish further cemented Musa as one of Major League Soccer’s elite scorers this season while also moving him up the FC Dallas history books.
With the goal, Musa tied former FC Dallas forward Kenny Cooper for third place on the club’s all-time scoring list with 46 career goals. He now sits just six goals behind former Homegrown star Jesús Ferreira for second place in franchise history.
Musa’s continued consistency has become one of the driving forces behind Dallas’ improved attack in 2026.
However, San Jose refused to disappear quietly.
The Earthquakes battled back with two second-half goals, capitalizing on sustained pressure and forcing Dallas into a tense finish late in the match.
Without suspended head coach Eric Quill on the sideline due to a one-match ban, assistant coach Mark Briggs stepped in to lead the club.
Briggs helped Dallas stay organized during the closing stages despite San Jose’s attacking momentum and the increasingly hostile road environment.
Then, in the dying moments of stoppage time, Sarver delivered the winner.
The young forward entered the match in the 84th minute and once again made an immediate impact off the bench, scoring in the 93rd minute to secure all three points for Dallas.
It marked Sarver’s third goal in his last four matches and his second game-winning goal scored in added time this season.
Dallas remains undefeated when Sarver scores, improving to 3-0-0 in those matches.
The dramatic finish also highlighted the club’s growing depth and attacking versatility under Quill’s system.
While Musa continues leading the frontline, players such as Sarver and Delgado have increasingly stepped into important scoring roles throughout the season.
Saturday’s result may ultimately prove to be one of Dallas’ most meaningful wins of the campaign.
Not only did FC Dallas end a nearly decade-long drought in San Jose, but the club also earned a critical road victory against one of the Western Conference’s top contenders while showing resilience in a high-pressure environment.
The performance offered another sign that this FC Dallas group continues evolving into a dangerous playoff contender capable of winning difficult matches away from home.
Dallas now returns home with momentum and renewed confidence as the club prepares for the next phase of the MLS schedule.
