STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | May 13, 2026 — FC Dallas entered Wednesday night hoping to send its fans into the FIFA World Cup break with momentum and another statement victory at Toyota Stadium. Instead, Vancouver Whitecaps FC spoiled the party with a second-half comeback in a dramatic 3-2 decision under the lights in Frisco.
FC Dallas: Building Towards Success
The loss dropped Dallas to 5-4-4 on the season, while Vancouver continued its impressive run atop the Western Conference at 9-1-2. Despite the defeat, FC Dallas once again showed flashes of the attacking identity head coach Eric Quill has been building throughout the 2026 campaign.
Dallas struck first and looked in control early.
Forward Logan Farrington opened the scoring with a powerful header off a perfectly delivered cross from midfielder Ran Binyamin. The goal marked Farrington’s fifth of the season, tying his career-high total set in 2025.
Toyota Stadium erupted as Dallas dictated possession and tempo during the opening stages. The aggressive start reflected a team eager to build on recent momentum after securing back-to-back victories entering the match.
Quill later admitted the opening stretch was exactly what Dallas wanted.
“We were on the front foot, organized behind the ball and scored two great goals,” Quill said postgame.
But against one of Major League Soccer’s hottest clubs, small mistakes quickly became costly.
Vancouver responded after Dallas lost defensive shape during a transition moment, allowing midfielder Sebastian Berhalter space outside the box. The Whitecaps capitalized on the breakdown with a clinical finish that shifted momentum midway through the match.
FC Dallas regained life in the second half thanks to its superstar striker.
Forward Petar Musa calmly buried a penalty kick after Farrington drew a foul inside the area. The conversion gave Musa his 11th goal of the season and continued what has become one of the best scoring stretches in MLS this year.
Musa now sits just one goal shy of tying Kenny Cooper Jr. for third place on FC Dallas’ all-time scoring list.
The Croatian forward continues to establish himself as one of the league’s elite attackers. Entering the night, Musa ranked among MLS leaders in goals scored, shots on target and overall goal involvements.
Still, Vancouver refused to go away.
The Whitecaps increased pressure late in the match, forcing Dallas deeper defensively while creating dangerous chances through wide play and quick movement in transition. Dallas initially absorbed the pressure well, with defenders repeatedly stepping in front of shots and protecting the middle of the field.
Quill praised his backline’s effort despite the final result.
“Those guys are warriors,” Quill said. “Our mentality is to take care of each other, get behind the ball and do everything possible to prevent goals.”
However, another defensive lapse proved decisive.
Berhalter once again found too much space near the edge of the box and punished Dallas with another long-range strike that gave Vancouver the lead for good. Quill specifically pointed to overcommitting defensively and allowing the midfielder too much room to operate.
Dallas attempted one final push late, but Vancouver’s disciplined defense closed down the remaining opportunities and secured all three points.
One of the bright spots for Dallas came from rising forward Sam Sarver, whose electric pace once again created problems in transition. Quill highlighted Sarver’s attacking ability and confidence as an important weapon moving forward.
The match also extended FC Dallas’ remarkable home attendance streak. The club announced its 43rd consecutive regular-season sellout at Toyota Stadium with 11,004 fans in attendance. Including postseason contests, Dallas has now sold out 44 straight MLS home matches — the longest streak in franchise history.
Despite the disappointing finish, Quill remained optimistic about his group heading into a challenging road stretch.
“The road can really bring a locker room together,” Quill said. “These guys care about each other, and we believe we can go toe to toe with anybody.”
FC Dallas now heads west for a matchup against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night as the club looks to bounce back before the World Cup pause.
