NBA News: Knicks Prepare for Game 3 Spotlight as Trump Attendance Brings Extra Security to Madison Square Garden

STWF Sports | NEW YORK | June 8, 2026 — The New York Knicks are two wins away from ending one of the longest championship droughts in basketball, but Monday night’s Game 3 at Madison Square Garden will bring more than Finals pressure.

It will bring a security operation.

The Knicks return home with a commanding 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, setting up the first Finals game at Madison Square Garden since 1999. The energy around the city has reached a fever pitch, with ticket prices soaring and the building expected to be one of the loudest stages in recent NBA memory.

The cheapest ticket for Game 3 has reportedly climbed to $11,461, a staggering number that reflects both the rarity of the moment and the desperation of Knicks fans to witness history in person.

New York is chasing its first NBA championship since 1973, and this team has created real belief across the city. The Knicks enter Monday night riding a 13-game winning streak after sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals. Now, they have pushed the Spurs into an early series hole and return to MSG with a chance to move within one victory of the title.

But the night will come with added complications.

Trump’s Attendance and Its Impact on Game 3

President Donald Trump has confirmed he will attend Game 3, while New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is also expected to be at Madison Square Garden. Their presence has led to enhanced security measures that could impact fans entering the arena and potentially affect the scheduled 8 p.m. ET tipoff.

The Knicks announced that Madison Square Garden and the United States Secret Service are working together to implement additional procedures for ticket holders.

“As we move closer to Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday night, Madison Square Garden and the United States Secret Service want to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all ticket holders by sharing important security procedures that will be in place,” the team said in a statement.

A strict no-bag policy will be in effect, and fans have been urged to bring as few personal items as possible. The team also said guests should expect TSA-style screening procedures and encouraged fans to arrive at least two hours before tipoff.

The message was clear: this will not be a normal entry process.

“There will be no storage available for prohibited items brought to the venue,” the team added.

The increased security has already raised questions about whether the game can begin on time. Business analyst Darren Rovell pointed to past delays involving presidential attendance at major sporting events, noting that Trump’s appearance at the U.S. Open Final led to a 30-minute delay and many fans still outside their seats when the match began.

Rovell suggested a similar issue could unfold at MSG, especially with crowds expected around the Garden before tipoff.

The added security has also affected events outside the arena. The New York Police Department announced there will be no Game 3 watch party outside Madison Square Garden. A permit for the Plaza33 event was denied by the city’s permitting office in consultation with the NYPD.

An MSG spokesperson told ESPN the decision applies to Monday night and said additional street closures are expected around the arena. The statement also left open the possibility that a watch party could return for Game 4 on Wednesday, when the Knicks could have an opportunity to complete a sweep.

On the court, the Knicks will try to keep their focus on the Spurs. San Antonio entered the Finals led by rising superstar Victor Wembanyama, but New York has controlled the series through the first two games. The Knicks’ defense, physicality and late-game execution have put them halfway to a championship.

Still, the Spurs remain dangerous. Game 3 represents their first chance to respond on the road and avoid falling into a 3-0 deficit, a position no NBA team has ever overcome in a playoff series.

For the Knicks, Monday night is a chance to turn a special season into something even bigger. For fans, it is a night decades in the making. For the city, it is a full-scale event.

Basketball will be the main attraction, but the atmosphere around Madison Square Garden will be unlike anything New York has seen in years.

The Knicks are close to history. On Monday, they will try to take one more step toward it under the brightest lights in the sport.
