NCAA News: Bo McCalebb Set for New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction

STWF Sports | NEW ORLEANS | June 22, 2026 — Bo McCalebb’s name has long been stitched into the history of New Orleans basketball. On Wednesday night, the University of New Orleans legend will add another major honor to a résumé already filled with record-setting moments, championship stops and international acclaim.

McCalebb, a New Orleans native and O. Perry Walker High School graduate, will be inducted into the Allstate Sugar Bowl New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Caesars Superdome. The honor places him among the city’s most accomplished sports figures and continues a remarkable three-year stretch of recognition for one of the greatest players in UNO history.

For the Privateers, McCalebb remains the standard.

Celebrating the Legacy of Bo McCalebb

During his career on the Lakefront from 2003 to 2008, McCalebb rewrote the program and Sun Belt Conference record books. He appeared in 128 games, which stood as the most in program history until Troy Green surpassed the mark in 2021. More importantly, McCalebb became one of the most prolific scorers college basketball has ever seen.

He finished his UNO career with 2,679 points, a total that remains the school record by nearly 800 points and the Sun Belt Conference record by more than 300. That production still places him No. 36 on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list, and he is one of just 50 players in Division I history to score more than 2,600 career points.

McCalebb’s scoring consistency was elite. He finished among the nation’s top 10 scorers three times, ranking fifth in 2004-05, sixth in 2006-07 and ninth in 2007-08. He also led the Sun Belt in scoring in three of his four healthy seasons, becoming the centerpiece of the Privateers’ offense and one of the most difficult guards in the country to contain.

His 977 made field goals remain the most in school and Sun Belt Conference history. While scoring defined much of his legacy, McCalebb was far from a one-dimensional player. He ranks fifth in UNO history with 378 career assists and also finished with 250 steals, the most in program history and fourth most in Sun Belt history.

That defensive impact helped separate McCalebb from many high-volume scorers. Following the 2007-08 season, he became the only student-athlete in program history to earn conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.

McCalebb’s college résumé also includes Associated Press honorable mention All-American recognition after the 2006-07 season and All-America honors from Mid-Major Madness and CollegeInsider.com following the 2007-08 campaign. He was a four-time All-Sun Belt selection, the league’s Freshman of the Year in 2003-04 and the Sun Belt Player of the Year after the 2006-07 season.

After leaving UNO, McCalebb built a decorated professional career overseas. He played for Mersin BB, Partizan, Montepaschi Siena, Fenerbahce, Bayern Munich, Limoges CSP, Gran Canaria and Zaragoza. His European career included All-EuroLeague honors in 2010 and 2013, along with 13 combined league championships and cup titles from 2010 to 2016.

McCalebb also starred internationally, helping lead the Macedonian national team to the bronze medal game at EuroBasket 2011. He earned All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 21.4 points per game.

His latest induction comes after he entered the Privateer Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023, the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025 and had his jersey retired by UNO in 2026.

McCalebb joins a star-studded 2026 New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame class that includes Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Eli Manning and Peyton Manning. He becomes the 13th former Privateer selected since 1995 and the fifth UNO men’s basketball figure to receive the honor.

For New Orleans basketball, McCalebb’s induction is more than a career milestone. It is a celebration of a hometown guard who carried the city with him from the Lakefront to the world stage.
