STWF Sports| GRAMBLING, La.| October 3, 2026 — Grambling State delivered one of its most dramatic finishes of the season Saturday, erasing a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit and scoring the game-winning touchdown with 19 seconds remaining to defeat Alcorn State 63-59 in a wild Homecoming showdown at Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium.
The victory moved Grambling State to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while Alcorn State dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league action.
The Tigers appeared to be in serious trouble after Alcorn surged ahead in the second half. Grambling had led 35-28 before the Braves scored 17 points in the third quarter and added another early touchdown in the fourth to build a 45-35 advantage.
From there, the game turned into an offensive shootout.
Grambling State’s Remarkable Comeback
Grambling answered with 28 fourth-quarter points, including three touchdowns over the final 6:11, as the Tigers repeatedly responded each time Alcorn threatened to put the game away.
Quarterback Ashton Frye began the comeback with a 5-yard touchdown run at the 13:10 mark, trimming the deficit to 45-42.
Alcorn immediately punched back.
Quarterback Jaylon Tolbert connected with Jamarr Ebron for a 40-yard touchdown with 10:52 remaining, and Fredrick Robertson followed with a 2-yard rushing score shortly afterward to push the Braves ahead 59-42.
That 17-point margin still was not enough.
Frye led Grambling on a 68-yard drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Nae’Saan Dickerson with 6:11 remaining. The Tigers continued closing the gap when D’Shaun Ford scored from 1 yard out, pulling Grambling within three at 59-56.
Then came the defensive play that changed everything.
With Alcorn trying to drain the clock, Jon Horton pressured Tolbert and forced a fumble. Marcellius Johnson recovered the ball, giving Grambling another opportunity in Braves territory.
The Tigers capitalized, setting up another scoring sequence before getting the ball back one final time with 2:19 remaining.
Starting from its own 24-yard line, Grambling quickly flipped the field when Frye connected with Jordan Bride for a 51-yard completion to the Alcorn 25.
After a sack and short gain left the Tigers facing third-and-20, Frye went back to Bride for a clutch 24-yard completion to the 11.
With the clock nearly gone, Frye found Tyson George for an 11-yard touchdown with 19 seconds remaining, completing the comeback and setting off a Homecoming celebration.
George finished with six receptions for a season-high 96 yards and three touchdowns. His other scores came on receptions of 54 and 8 yards.
Frye completed 11 of 17 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns while adding 61 rushing yards and two scores. Jacobe Robinson contributed 167 passing yards and two touchdowns on 13-of-17 passing.
Bride led Grambling with seven catches for 108 yards, while Byron Eaton Jr. added four receptions for 97 yards. Jamarion Parker provided explosiveness on the ground with 98 rushing yards on six carries, highlighted by a 59-yard run.
