UFL News: Colorado Stampede Unveiled as UFL’s Newest Franchise Ahead of 2027 Season

STWF Sports| COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. | Oct 25, 2026— The United Football League officially introduced the Colorado Stampede on Sunday, unveiling the name, logo and identity of its newest franchise ahead of the 2027 spring season.

The announcement took place at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, where thousands of fans gathered to welcome the new team and become part of what the organization is calling its inaugural “First Charge.”

The Stampede name draws from Colorado’s rugged identity and western heritage, with the Plains Bison serving as the franchise’s central symbol.

According to the league, the team’s branding is designed to represent strength, resilience and a collective force moving forward together — qualities the UFL wants reflected on the field as well as throughout the Colorado Springs community.

UFL President and CEO Russ Brandon said the league was encouraged by the early response from fans in the region.

“The excitement in the Springs from the moment we announced a Colorado team has been palpable,” Brandon said.

He also described the Stampede identity as one built around toughness, grit and physical football, with the franchise set to make its home debut at Weidner Field on April 11, 2027.

Identity Rooted in Colorado

The Colorado Stampede: A New Era for Football in Colorado

The Stampede logo features a charging bison with several Colorado-inspired elements built into the design.

A bold “C” appears on the bison’s forehead, while the mountains of Colorado Springs rise through the mane. The horn design also incorporates a subtle “S” representing the Springs.

The team’s color palette carries additional regional symbolism.

Gold Rush pays tribute to Colorado’s mining history and also gives a nod to the former Denver Gold of the original USFL. Bison Brown represents the power of the herd, while Canyon Red draws inspiration from the Garden of the Gods. Summit White represents the snow-covered peaks associated with Pikes Peak.

Neuheisel Returns to Colorado

The franchise will be led by Rick Neuheisel, who brings significant history in the state.

Neuheisel previously coached the University of Colorado from 1995 through 1998, compiling a 33-14 record, winning two Cotton Bowls and guiding the Buffaloes to a No. 4 national ranking in 1996.

He will now lead the Stampede with an initial roster foundation that includes players from his 2026 Dallas Renegades team.

Colorado will continue building its roster through free agency, UFL showcases and the 2027 UFL Draft, scheduled for Nov. 18 in St. Louis.

The Stampede will own the No. 2 overall pick in the first round and the fourth selection in Round 2.

High-Altitude Home Advantage

Weidner Field will serve as the Stampede’s home venue.

Sitting at 6,035 feet above sea level, the stadium is more than 750 feet higher than Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, giving the new franchise a distinctive home-field environment from its first season.

The move also gives Colorado Springs its own professional spring football presence in a region already known for its support of the Air Force Academy and a strong overall football culture.

UFL Continues Expansion Push

The Stampede arrive as the UFL looks to build on momentum from the 2026 season.

The league reported multiple games drawing more than one million viewers, increased ticket sales and a sold-out United Bowl. It also continued serving as a developmental pathway to the NFL, with 118 former UFL players participating in NFL training camps and more than 45 earning active-roster or practice-squad opportunities.

Colorado’s inaugural home game is scheduled for Sunday, April 11 at 3 p.m. ET and will air nationally on ABC.

Season tickets include five home games and begin at $75.

For the UFL, the launch of the Colorado Stampede is more than another expansion announcement. It is an effort to plant professional spring football in a market with deep football roots, a distinct regional identity and a fanbase now ready to make some noise of its own.
