WNBA Preview: Dallas Wings Open Four-Game Road Trip Against Sun in Hartford

STWF Sports | HARTFORD, Conn. July 2, 2026 — The Dallas Wings begin a demanding four-game road trip Thursday night with a matchup against the Connecticut Sun at PeoplesBank Arena, looking to regain momentum after a tough home loss and continue their strong start to the 2026 WNBA season.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT. The game will air locally on KFAA with Ron Thulin handling play-by-play duties alongside analyst Fran Harris. The matchup will also stream on Prime, with Lisa Byington on play-by-play, LaChina Robinson as analyst and Morgan Ragan reporting from the sideline.

Dallas enters the contest at 11-8, still positioned as one of the league’s more intriguing teams behind a young, dynamic backcourt and a roster that has shown the ability to rally even when games get uncomfortable. Connecticut comes in at 4-15 but carries momentum after winning back-to-back games, including a 68-57 victory over the Washington Mystics on June 26.

For the Wings, Thursday’s game represents both a reset and an opportunity. Dallas is coming off an 85-77 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday afternoon, a game in which the Wings trailed by as many as 23 points before clawing back within four with five minutes remaining. The comeback effort ultimately fell short, but the late response showed the competitive edge that has become a major part of Dallas’ identity.

The Dallas Wings’ Road Ahead

Paige Bueckers led the Wings with 25 points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block against Minnesota, continuing to operate as one of the primary engines of the offense. Azzi Fudd added 21 points, one rebound, four steals and one block, giving Dallas another strong scoring performance and disruptive defensive presence on the perimeter.

That pairing will again be central to Dallas’ game plan Thursday. Bueckers’ ability to control pace, create shots and keep the offense organized has become a stabilizing force for the Wings. Fudd’s shooting and defensive activity give Dallas another layer, especially when the Wings are able to turn stops into transition opportunities.

The Wings will need that balance against a Connecticut team that has started to find confidence despite its record. The Sun’s latest win over Washington was built on defensive discipline and balanced scoring. Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Leila Lacan led Connecticut with 12 points apiece, while Kennedy Burke added 11 points.

Connecticut’s record may not reflect the franchise’s usual standard, but the Sun remain a physical group capable of making games difficult. Playing in Hartford also adds another challenge for Dallas, especially to begin a road swing. The Wings have been tested in close games this season, and Thursday’s matchup could come down to execution in the half court and late-game shot selection.

This will be the first meeting between Dallas and Connecticut this season. The Wings won the 2025 regular-season series, 2-1, and have had recent success on the road against the Sun. Dallas has won three of its last four regular-season games in Connecticut dating back to the 2023 season, a trend the Wings will look to extend.

Still, this matchup arrives with a different feel. Dallas is trying to respond to a missed comeback opportunity against Minnesota, while Connecticut is trying to turn a two-game winning streak into its best stretch of the season. For the Sun, a win over a playoff-positioned Dallas team would represent another sign of progress. For the Wings, avoiding a slow start will be critical after falling into a deep hole against the Lynx.

The opening quarter should provide an early read on Dallas’ focus. When the Wings are sharp defensively and decisive offensively, they can pressure opponents with pace, spacing and shot-making. When they allow opponents to dictate tempo, they have been forced into comeback mode.

Thursday’s game also gives Dallas a chance to build rhythm before the road trip tightens. Four-game trips can define stretches of a season, especially for a team looking to stay above the middle of the standings. Winning the opener would give the Wings an immediate lift and help erase some of the frustration from Sunday’s home loss.

The Sun will look to lean on their defense, frontcourt activity and recent confidence. The Wings will counter with Bueckers, Fudd and a roster that has shown it can score quickly when shots begin to fall.

For Dallas, the assignment is straightforward: start faster, protect the ball, control the glass and close stronger than it did against Minnesota. If the Wings can do that, Thursday night in Hartford could be the right first step on an important road trip.
