STWF Sports | BROOKLYN, N.Y. | July 7, 2026 — The Dallas Wings walked into a sold-out Barclays Center on Tuesday night and left with one of their strongest wins of the season.
Behind a historic triple-double from Jessica Shepard and a dominant second-quarter surge, Dallas defeated the New York Liberty 88-77 to extend its winning streak to three games. The Wings improved to 14-8, marking the best 22-game start in franchise history, while New York dropped to 13-9.
Shepard delivered the headline performance, finishing with a career-high tying 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. It was her third triple-double of the season, and she now owns every triple-double recorded in the WNBA this year. With four regular-season triple-doubles in her career, Shepard moved into a tie for second all-time in league history with Sabrina Ionescu.
The veteran forward was efficient and composed throughout the night, recording a career-high 11 made field goals in 36 minutes. She also tied Ionescu for the most 20-point triple-doubles in WNBA regular-season history with three.
For Dallas, it was more than just another road win. The Wings picked up multiple victories over the Liberty in a single regular-season series for the first time since 2022. It also marked the first time since the franchise relocated to North Texas that Dallas has earned multiple road wins over New York in the same season.
The Rise of the Dallas Wings in the WNBA
The Wings had to settle in early. New York led 20-18 after the first quarter and stretched the advantage to 25-18 early in the second. From there, Dallas flipped the game.
Aziaha James knocked down a three-pointer, Alanna Smith converted an and-one, and Paige Bueckers attacked the rim for a driving layup to put the Wings ahead 26-25. That sequence forced a Liberty timeout, but it did not slow Dallas. The Wings continued the run, scoring 11 more unanswered points to take a 37-25 lead midway through the quarter.
Dallas held New York scoreless for more than five minutes in the second and limited the Liberty to just 2-of-15 shooting in the period. The Wings outscored New York 29-11 in the quarter, taking a 47-31 lead into halftime.
The second quarter became the turning point of the night. Dallas shot 60 percent in the frame while holding New York to 13.3 percent. It was the first time a Wings opponent shot below 14 percent in a quarter since August 2022.
Shepard nearly had a triple-double by halftime, entering the locker room with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Awak Kuier was also everywhere, totaling six points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks in the first half.
Kuier went on to produce the best all-around game of her WNBA career. She recorded her first double-double with 10 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, a career-high seven assists and a game-high three blocks. She also hit a career-best three three-pointers, finishing 3-of-4 from deep.
New York made its push after halftime. The Liberty opened the third quarter on a 14-5 run, cutting Dallas’ lead to 52-45. After New York trimmed the margin to five, the Wings answered with nine straight points to rebuild a 14-point cushion. Dallas entered the fourth leading 69-54 and never lost control.
Bueckers finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while rookie guard Azzi Fudd added 12 points, three assists and two steals. Fudd continues to lead all WNBA rookies in steals, blocks and made three-pointers.
Dallas shot 46.1 percent from the field and held New York to 40 percent. The Liberty struggled badly from deep, making just 5 of 26 three-point attempts. It was only the second time this season New York connected on five or fewer threes.
The Wings won the rebounding battle 38-34, edged the paint 44-42, won second-chance points 15-11 and dominated bench scoring 21-9. Dallas also recorded 29 assists on 35 made field goals and improved to 5-0 this season when dishing out at least 29 assists.
Breanna Stewart led New York with 29 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Jonquel Jones added 17 points and 12 rebounds.
The Wings will close their four-game road trip Friday, July 10, in Montreal against the Toronto Tempo. Dallas and New York meet once more during the regular season on July 16 in Arlington.
