STWF Sports | DALLAS, Texas | April 21, 2026 — The Dallas Renegades made a strategic midseason move aimed at reinforcing the trenches, announcing Tuesday the acquisition of offensive tackle Corey Stewart from the St. Louis Battlehawks in exchange for quarterback Luis Perez.
The transaction reflects both roster need and player-driven circumstances, as head coach Rick Neuheisel confirmed the move was initiated in part to provide Perez with a clearer path to playing time.
“This was a move prompted by Luis,” Neuheisel said. “We have a great deal of respect for him and wanted to find a place for him to play. At the same time, it provided us an opportunity to shore up our offensive line, given some mid-year bumps and bruises that are accumulated. We are happy to have Corey and wish Luis the very best.”
For Dallas, the addition of Stewart represents a calculated effort to stabilize an offensive front that has dealt with attrition as the 2026 UFL season progresses. With the Renegades positioning themselves for a late-season push, depth along the line has become increasingly critical, particularly in maintaining protection for a high-powered offense.
Dallas Renegades Aim for a Strong Finish
Stewart arrives with a reputation as a versatile and reliable tackle, capable of contributing on both the left and right side. During his time with St. Louis this season, he appeared in all four games, rotating across the line and demonstrating consistency in pass protection schemes. His adaptability is expected to provide immediate value for a Dallas unit seeking flexibility amid injuries.
The 6-foot-5 lineman’s professional résumé is backed by a strong collegiate foundation. At Purdue University, Stewart emerged as a key contributor, starting 11 games at left tackle during his senior season. Competing in the Big Ten, one of college football’s most competitive conferences, he established himself as a dependable blindside protector, surrendering just one sack across 345 pass-blocking snaps.
Prior to his tenure at Purdue, Stewart developed at Ball State University, where he appeared in 33 games and earned recognition as the Cardinals’ highest-graded offensive lineman in 2023. His performance garnered Preseason All-MAC honors, highlighting his progression into a top-tier lineman at the collegiate level.
Stewart’s journey to the UFL also includes a stint with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2025, providing him with exposure to NFL-level competition and further refining his skill set.
For the Renegades, the move underscores a commitment to building from the line of scrimmage, a philosophy that often defines success in spring football leagues. With quarterback play already stabilized, reinforcing pass protection and run-blocking lanes becomes essential as the team prepares for the closing stretch of the regular season.
The departure of Perez marks the end of a notable chapter for Dallas. A veteran presence and one of the more recognizable quarterbacks in spring football, Perez played a key role in the Renegades’ recent history. However, with the emergence of younger options and shifting roster dynamics, the trade provides both sides with an opportunity to address immediate needs.
Dallas will have an immediate opportunity to integrate Stewart into the lineup as the team returns to Toyota Stadium this Sunday for its final home game of the 2026 season. The Renegades are set to host the Louisville Kings with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
The matchup will also serve as “Kids Day,” an event designed to enhance the fan experience for younger audiences and families, adding an extra layer of energy to what is expected to be a key late-season contest.
As the Renegades push toward the postseason, Tuesday’s transaction signals a clear focus: strengthen the foundation up front, protect the offense, and position the team for success when it matters most.
