STWF Sports | AMARILLO, Texas | June 28, 2026— The Frisco RoughRiders have a chance to leave HODGETOWN with another series win Sunday evening, and they will do it with another Texas Rangers rehab arm on the mound.
Frisco meets the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, at 5:05 p.m. in the finale of a six-game series. Veteran right-hander Chris Martin is slated to make a rehab start for the RoughRiders, while Amarillo will counter with right-hander Daniel Eagen, who enters at 2-6 with a 5.58 ERA.
The RoughRiders enter the finale at 3-2 in the second half and 42-31 overall after falling 4-2 on Saturday night. Frisco still has an opportunity to win the series after taking three of the first five games, continuing a strong start after clinching the Texas League South Division first-half title earlier this month.
Saturday’s loss came despite Frisco outhitting Amarillo. Texas Rangers left-hander Jordan Montgomery opened the night on a Major League rehab assignment and delivered two perfect innings, retiring all six batters he faced while striking out three. The RoughRiders then gave him early support in the third inning when Corey Joyce launched a two-run home run off Amarillo starter Junior Sanchez for a 2-0 lead.
The Impact of the Frisco RoughRiders on Texas League Dynamics
Once Montgomery exited, Amarillo began to chip away. Matt O’Neill drove in a run with an RBI double in the bottom of the third against Ben Anderson, cutting the Frisco lead to 2-1. The RoughRiders carried that advantage into the sixth before the Sod Poodles changed the game with back-to-back solo home runs from Cristofer Torin and Ben McLaughlin, moving ahead 3-2.
Amarillo added an insurance run in the eighth, and Indigo Diaz worked out of trouble in the ninth by getting Frainyer Chavez to ground out with two runners aboard. Diaz earned his first save of the season, and Frisco dropped its second game of the week.
Now the RoughRiders turn to Martin, who is expected to begin his rehab assignment as he works back from a right shoulder impingement. His appearance gives Frisco another big-league presence after Montgomery’s strong rehab outing and Evan Carter’s recent assignment with the club.
Frisco has already secured its postseason spot after winning the first half on June 18. The RoughRiders have now reached the playoffs 11 times in franchise history, their first berth since 2024. The club finished the first half 39-29, good for a .567 winning percentage, the eighth-best first-half mark in franchise history and its best since 2024.
Even with the postseason secured, the Riders have continued to get production from one of the Texas League’s deepest offenses. Chavez remains the hottest bat in the lineup. Over his last 33 games, he is batting .383 with a .480 on-base percentage, a .609 slugging percentage, 14 doubles, five home runs, 21 RBIs and 29 runs scored. Since May 20, he leads the Texas League in batting average, hits and doubles.
Chavez is also riding a nine-game hitting streak, batting .538 during that stretch with four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs. For the season, he ranks near the top of the league in batting average, on-base percentage, hits, doubles, walks and runs scored.
Max Wagner has also provided a major power boost. Over his last six games, Wagner has hit five home runs, including the first three-homer game of his career on June 26. That performance was the seventh three-home run game in RoughRiders franchise history.
Frisco’s offense has enjoyed HODGETOWN throughout the season. In 11 games in Amarillo, the RoughRiders are hitting .333 with 28 home runs and an average of 8.2 runs per game. Through 73 games overall, Frisco leads the Texas League in hits, batting average, doubles and OPS.
The bullpen continues to be a strength as well. Frisco owns the top relief ERA in the Texas League and the second-best mark in Double-A. Over the last 29 games, the Riders’ bullpen has posted a 3.32 ERA, the best in Double-A during that stretch.
Sunday’s finale offers Frisco a chance to finish the road series with a winning mark, build more second-half momentum and see another Rangers veteran take a step forward on the rehab trail.
