STWF Sports | AMARILLO, Texas | April 14, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders delivered one of their most explosive offensive performances of the young season Tuesday night, erupting for seven runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Amarillo Sod Poodles 15-11 at HODGETOWN.
Why the Frisco RoughRiders Are a Team to Watch This Season
The comeback victory pushed Frisco to 6-4 on the season and marked a statement start to a six-game road series, showcasing the lineup’s resilience and depth in a game defined by momentum swings.
Frisco jumped out early, scoring four runs against Amarillo starter Avery Short. RBI singles from John Taylor and Orlando Martinez highlighted the opening surge, giving the RoughRiders a quick offensive boost. However, Amarillo responded by capitalizing on opportunities against Frisco starter Josh Trentadue, who allowed five runs in his second outing of the season. By the sixth inning, the Sod Poodles had built a 6-4 lead.
The RoughRiders chipped away in the middle innings, fueled by a breakout performance from Martinez. The outfielder ignited the offense in the sixth inning with a leadoff home run — his first as a RoughRider — before adding a second blast in the seventh. Combined with a Keyber Rodriguez RBI triple, Frisco trimmed the deficit to 9-8 and remained within striking distance.
Despite the offensive push, Amarillo extended its lead to 11-8 entering the ninth inning, putting Frisco on the brink of defeat. What followed was a dramatic offensive outburst that turned the game on its head.
Martinez sparked the rally with a leadoff double, setting the tone for the inning. Marcus Lee Sang followed with his third double of the night, driving in Martinez and narrowing the gap. After Theo Hardy reached on an infield single and Corey Joyce reached via catcher’s interference, Frainyer Chavez delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to one.
The turning point came on the next play, when Ian Moller hit a ground ball that Amarillo attempted to turn into a double play. A throwing error allowed two runs to score, giving Frisco its first lead since the early innings. With momentum firmly in their favor, the RoughRiders continued to press.
Taylor added an insurance run with another RBI single before Martinez capped his remarkable night with a two-run hit, pushing the lead to 15-11 and completing the seven-run inning.
Martinez’s performance stood out as one of the most dominant individual efforts of the season. He recorded a career-high five hits and matched a career-best with six RBIs, with four of his hits driving in runs. His combination of power and timely hitting proved to be the difference in the game.
Lee Sang also delivered a standout performance, collecting four hits, including three doubles. Batting directly behind Martinez, the two outfielders combined to go 9-for-12 with six extra-base hits, providing a relentless offensive presence throughout the night.
The RoughRiders’ lineup as a whole produced at a historic level, tallying 20 hits — surpassing their highest total from the 2025 season and approaching the franchise record of 24. Seven of the nine starters recorded multi-hit games, reflecting a collective offensive effort that overwhelmed Amarillo’s pitching staff.
While the pitching staff faced challenges early, the offense’s ability to respond underscored the team’s depth and resilience. Frisco has now posted innings of 10, seven, and six runs this season, highlighting its capacity for explosive scoring bursts.
With the victory, the RoughRiders take a 1-0 lead in the series and will look to build on that momentum in the next matchup. Left-hander Blake Townsend is scheduled to start for Frisco against Amarillo right-hander Daniel Eagen in Wednesday’s contest.
For a team seeking consistency after a competitive opening stretch, Tuesday’s performance offered a glimpse of the RoughRiders’ offensive ceiling — one capable of turning any game around in a matter of innings.
