STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | April 12, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders were unable to generate consistent offense in Sunday’s series finale, falling 5-1 to the Midland RockHounds at Riders Field. The loss secured a 4-2 series victory for Midland and dropped Frisco to 5-4 on the young season.
Frisco RoughRiders Strive for Consistency
Despite a solid outing from starting pitcher David Davalillo, the RoughRiders struggled to find momentum at the plate against Midland’s pitching staff, which delivered one of the most dominant performances of the series.
Davalillo provided a steady presence on the mound, working five innings while allowing three runs, two of them earned, and striking out seven batters. It marked his second consecutive start with seven strikeouts, continuing an encouraging early-season trend for the right-hander. However, Midland struck quickly, as Leo De Vries launched a solo home run in the first inning to give the visitors an early advantage they would not relinquish.
The RockHounds continued to apply pressure in the middle innings, capitalizing on scoring opportunities to build a lead that ultimately proved insurmountable. Davalillo battled through traffic and limited further damage, but Frisco’s offense was unable to provide run support against a dominant Midland pitching effort.
Midland starter Chen Zhong-Ao Zhuang delivered the game’s defining performance, holding the RoughRiders hitless through 5.2 innings. Mixing command and efficiency, Zhuang kept Frisco’s lineup off balance, recording five strikeouts while limiting hard contact throughout his outing.
The RoughRiders finally broke through in the sixth inning when infielder Frainyer Chavez connected on a solo home run to left field. The blast accounted for Frisco’s only run of the night and extended Chavez’s impressive stretch at the plate. Over the course of the series, he emerged as one of the team’s most reliable offensive contributors, finishing 9-for-23 with two home runs and four walks.
Outside of Chavez’s homer, Frisco managed just one additional hit — a seventh-inning single from John Taylor — underscoring the challenges the lineup faced against Midland’s pitching staff. Zhuang exited after 5.2 innings, but the RockHounds bullpen maintained control of the game.
Right-hander Kenya Huggins closed out the contest with authority, earning his first career save by tossing the final three innings. Midland added insurance in the late innings, including a solo home run from Shane McGuire, to extend the lead and eliminate any chance of a late Frisco rally.
While the offensive struggles defined the outcome, there were bright spots for the RoughRiders on the pitching side. Reliever Zach Bryant continued his strong form out of the bullpen, delivering 1.2 scoreless innings. Bryant’s performance followed his immaculate inning earlier in the week, further solidifying his role as a reliable option in high-leverage situations.
The loss marks the conclusion of a competitive six-game set that featured multiple one-run contests and late-inning drama. Although Frisco showed resilience throughout the series, Midland’s ability to capitalize on key moments ultimately proved decisive.
For the RoughRiders, the focus now shifts to regrouping and preparing for their upcoming road trip. Frisco will travel to face the Amarillo Sod Poodles, with left-hander Josh Trentadue scheduled to take the mound on Tuesday following an off day on Monday.
As the season continues to take shape, the RoughRiders will look to rediscover their early offensive rhythm while building on the consistency shown by their pitching staff. With a balanced approach, Frisco aims to turn the page quickly and regain momentum in the next series.
