STWF Sports| AMARILLO, Texas | April 15, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders continued their offensive surge Wednesday night, using a barrage of five home runs to defeat the Amarillo Sod Poodles 10-7 at HODGETOWN and secure a 2-0 lead in the six-game series.
Coming off a dramatic comeback win in the series opener, Frisco (7-4) wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early lead behind an aggressive approach at the plate. The RoughRiders struck immediately in the top of the first inning when Frainyer Chavez blasted a leadoff home run — his third of the season — off Amarillo starter Daniel Eagen.
Moments later, John Taylor followed with a two-run homer, his second of the year, giving Frisco a quick 3-0 advantage and signaling another long night for Amarillo’s pitching staff.
The RoughRiders continued to apply pressure in the third inning. Keith Jones II added to the offensive display with his first home run of the 2026 season, highlighting a three-run frame that extended the lead to 6-0. The early cushion provided valuable support for Frisco starter Blake Townsend, who was making his second start of the season.
Frisco RoughRiders’ Power Display Dominates Amarillo
Townsend delivered three scoreless innings to open the game, effectively navigating Amarillo’s lineup and working with a comfortable lead. However, the Sod Poodles (2-9) responded in the fourth inning, sparked by a solo home run from Manuel Peña and a string of timely hits that resulted in three earned runs. Despite the rally, Townsend limited further damage with help from reliever Wilian Bormie, who entered to stabilize the inning and preserve Frisco’s lead.
Frisco’s offense answered quickly. In the fifth inning, Keyber Rodriguez launched a solo home run to push the lead to 7-3, maintaining momentum for the RoughRiders. The steady production at the plate has been a defining trait of Frisco’s early success in Amarillo, where the club has consistently taken advantage of the hitter-friendly environment.
Amarillo attempted to stay within striking distance, chipping away at the deficit with runs in the middle innings. However, Frisco delivered the decisive blow in the eighth inning. In his first start with the RoughRiders, Corey Joyce made an immediate impact, crushing a three-run home run to extend the lead to 10-7 and effectively put the game out of reach.
Joyce’s performance stood out as one of several key contributions in the lineup. He finished with two hits, including the home run, in his debut, providing additional depth to an already productive offense.
Outfielder Orlando Martinez continued his remarkable series at the plate, recording three hits, including two doubles. After a five-hit performance in the opener, Martinez has now gone 8-for-11 through the first two games, delivering five extra-base hits and consistently driving the offense forward.
The RoughRiders’ collective effort has been overwhelming for Amarillo’s pitching staff. Through two games in the series, Frisco has scored 25 runs on 31 hits, showcasing both power and consistency throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Bormie (3-0) earned the victory in relief, continuing his strong start to the season. His ability to limit damage in key moments has been instrumental in maintaining Frisco’s momentum during high-scoring contests.
With the win, the RoughRiders have now positioned themselves firmly in control of the series, combining timely hitting with explosive power to dictate the pace of play. The team’s ability to generate offense from multiple spots in the lineup has made them one of the most dangerous units in the Texas League.
Frisco will look to maintain that momentum in Thursday’s matchup, with right-hander Winston Santos scheduled to take the mound against Amarillo’s Josh Grosz. As the series continues, the RoughRiders aim to build on their early success and secure a commanding position before returning home.
For now, the story remains clear — when the RoughRiders’ bats heat up, few teams have been able to keep pace.
