MiLB Game Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Shut Out as Six-Game Winning Streak Ends in San Antonio

STWF Sports | SAN ANTONIO, Texas | June 12, 2026 The Frisco RoughRiders’ season-best winning streak came to an end Friday night, as the San Antonio Missions used a late eighth-inning push to hand Frisco a 3-0 loss at Nelson Wolff Stadium.

For most of the night, the matchup looked like it would be decided by one swing or one defensive mistake. Frisco starter Dalton Pence did everything the RoughRiders could have asked for, delivering five scoreless innings while keeping San Antonio quiet at the plate. Pence allowed just two hits and one walk, struck out four and exited with the game still scoreless.

It was the kind of start that usually gives a team a strong chance to extend a winning streak. Pence controlled the pace, worked efficiently and gave Frisco an opportunity to strike first. But the RoughRiders’ offense never found its rhythm against San Antonio’s pitching staff.

Frisco managed just two hits on the night. Marcus Lee Sang collected an infield single in the third inning, and Arturo Disla added a single in the ninth. Outside of those two knocks, the RoughRiders struggled to generate traffic, leaving the pitching staff with little margin for error.

The Missions finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth.

After seven scoreless innings, San Antonio put together three straight singles against Bryan Magdaleno. Braedon Karpathios delivered the biggest hit of the frame, driving in the first run with an RBI single to give the Missions a 1-0 lead. San Antonio then added two more runs on RBI groundouts, turning a tight pitcher’s duel into a 3-0 advantage.

That inning marked the first runs allowed by Frisco’s bullpen in the series. Even with the late damage, the RoughRiders’ relief corps has still been excellent during the set, combining for 14 innings while allowing only three earned runs. That is good for a 1.93 ERA in the series, a sign of how strong the bullpen has been during Frisco’s recent surge.

Josh Mallitz earned the win for San Antonio after working two scoreless innings. Johan Moreno finished the job in the ninth, earning his fourth save of the season and closing out the Missions’ shutout victory.

For Frisco, the loss snapped a six-game winning streak that had helped the club create some separation in the Texas League South standings. The RoughRiders entered the night playing some of their best baseball of the season, combining strong starting pitching with timely offense and a shutdown bullpen. Friday’s game still featured quality pitching, but the offense could not cash in.

Despite the loss, Frisco remains in a strong position in the first-half race. Midland also lost Friday night, allowing the RoughRiders to maintain a 2.5-game lead over the RockHounds for first place in the Texas League South. Frisco also sits 4.5 games ahead of third-place Amarillo with nine games remaining in the first half.

The RoughRiders’ magic number to clinch the division is now seven.

That standings cushion matters, especially after a night where the club’s longest winning streak of the season came to a stop. Frisco still controls its position and has a chance to respond quickly with two games remaining in the series.

The RoughRiders will return to action Saturday at 7:05 p.m. for game five against the Missions at Nelson Wolff Stadium. Frisco has not yet announced its starter, while San Antonio is scheduled to send right-hander Ian Koenig to the mound. Koenig enters the matchup at 3-5 with a 4.04 ERA.

After a quiet offensive night, the RoughRiders will look to reset quickly and get back to the formula that fueled their six-game run: early pressure, steady pitching and timely swings with runners on base.
