STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | June 29, 2026 — Frainyer Chavez has been one of the steadiest offensive forces in the Texas League this season. Last week, the Frisco RoughRiders shortstop turned steady production into a league-wide honor.
Frainyer Chavez: A Rising Star in the Texas League
Chavez was named Texas League Player of the Week for games played from June 23-28, Minor League Baseball announced Monday. The recognition comes after a dominant offensive series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles and gives Frisco its second weekly award winner of the 2026 season.
For Chavez, the honor reflects both a scorching week and a season that continues to build into one of the most productive campaigns on the RoughRiders roster.
During Frisco’s six-game road series at HODGETOWN, Chavez led the Texas League and tied for second across all of Minor League Baseball with 13 hits. He hit .481 for the week, going 13-for-28, and tied for the Texas League lead with three home runs. Among hitters with at least 25 at-bats, his 1.437 OPS was the best in the Texas League and ranked second across Minor League Baseball for the week.
That kind of production made Chavez impossible to overlook.
His week included another four-hit performance on Thursday, June 25, giving him four different four-hit games this season. No hitter in Double-A has more four-hit games than Chavez, and he becomes the first RoughRider with at least four such games in a season since Thomas Saggese accomplished the feat in 2023.
For a player who has been at the center of Frisco’s offense throughout the year, the award adds another headline to a breakout stretch. Chavez has consistently given the RoughRiders traffic at the top of the lineup, extra-base damage and speed once he reaches base.
The Valencia, Venezuela, native enters the week leading Frisco with a .306 batting average. He also leads the Texas League South with 86 hits in 71 games, showing the kind of bat-to-ball consistency that has made him one of the toughest outs in the division.
Chavez has also supplied more power than ever before. His 11 home runs are a career high and tie him for the team lead. That added pop has helped stretch his offensive profile beyond contact and on-base ability. He has not only reached base often, but he has also changed games with one swing.
His value has extended to the bases as well. Chavez leads the RoughRiders with 17 stolen bases, giving Frisco another way to create pressure once he gets aboard. That blend of average, power and speed has made him one of the most complete offensive players in the Texas League this season.
The honor also comes during a key part of Frisco’s schedule. The RoughRiders have already secured a postseason berth after winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, but the club continues to build momentum in the second half. Chavez’s production has been central to that push.
Frisco’s trip to Amarillo was filled with offense, power and several standout individual performances, but Chavez’s consistency stood above the rest. He delivered hits in bunches, produced power in a hitter-friendly park and continued to set the table for one of the league’s most dangerous lineups.
For the RoughRiders, having Chavez recognized by the league is another sign of the depth and growth within their roster. Frisco has leaned on a balanced lineup all season, but Chavez has often served as the spark. His ability to reach base, drive the ball and run has helped create opportunities for the bats behind him.
The next challenge comes at home.
Chavez and the RoughRiders return to Riders Field on Tuesday, June 30, for the opener of a six-game series against the Midland RockHounds, the Double-A affiliate of the Athletics. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
After a week that put him at the top of the Texas League, Chavez now brings his hot bat back to Frisco. For a RoughRiders club already thinking about October, his continued rise is another reason the lineup remains one of the most dangerous in Double-A.
