MiLB News: Rafe Perich, Wilian Bormie Earn Rangers Minor League Monthly Honors

RAFE PERICH, WILIAN BORMIE Rangers players highlighted for May performance

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | June 8 , 2026  — Two Frisco RoughRiders standouts have been recognized for impressive May performances across the Texas Rangers’ farm system.

The Rangers announced Friday that infielder Rafe Perich was named the organization’s May Minor League Player of the Month, while right-handed pitcher Wilian Bormie was selected as the Rangers’ May Minor League Reliever of the Month. The honors reflect a strong month for both players and highlight two key contributors who have helped fuel Frisco’s push near the top of the Texas League South.

Rafe Perich’s Impact on the Frisco RoughRiders

Perich earned Player of the Month recognition after putting together one of the best offensive months in the minor leagues. Splitting May between High-A Hub City and Double-A Frisco, Perich slashed .327/.427/.714 with a 1.141 OPS across 26 games. He tied for the Minor League Baseball lead with 11 home runs during the month and drove in 32 runs, tied for the second-most in MiLB.

For a hitter making the jump to Double-A, that level of production has made an immediate impression.

Perich finished May with 32 hits, and 15 of them went for extra bases. That combination of contact, power and run production helped establish him as one of the hottest bats in the Rangers’ system. His 15 total home runs this season lead all Rangers minor league hitters.

Since joining Frisco, Perich has wasted little time making his presence felt. His power has traveled with him, and his ability to deliver in key moments has quickly turned him into one of the RoughRiders’ most dangerous late-game bats. Whether it has been a go-ahead swing, a run-producing extra-base hit or a momentum-shifting home run, Perich has added a new dimension to the Frisco lineup.

The Lehigh product’s award also reflects his ability to sustain production across levels. Many hitters need time to adjust after a promotion, especially when moving into the Texas League. Perich has shown the opposite, carrying his aggressive but productive approach into Double-A while continuing to drive the ball with authority.

Bormie, meanwhile, earned Reliever of the Month honors after becoming one of Frisco’s most dependable bullpen arms.

The Dominican Republic native led the RoughRiders with eight appearances in May and allowed only three earned runs over 10 innings. He struck out 14 hitters during the month and also secured his first two saves of the season.

Bormie’s season-long numbers have been just as strong. He owns a 1.78 ERA over 25.1 innings with 33 strikeouts and only nine walks. That strikeout-to-walk profile shows both swing-and-miss ability and improved command, two traits that are essential for late-inning relief work.

For the RoughRiders, Bormie’s emergence has been especially important in close games. Frisco has played several tight contests throughout the season, and having a reliever capable of handling pressure innings has given the club more flexibility late. His ability to miss bats, limit damage and finish games has helped stabilize the bullpen.

The Rangers’ monthly awards also recognized other standouts across the system. Single-A Hickory right-hander Evan Siary was named Starting Pitcher of the Month, while Hickory’s Yolfran Castillo earned Defender of the Month honors.

Still, Frisco’s two honorees show the strength of the RoughRiders’ current roster. Perich has brought impact power to the lineup, and Bormie has provided reliability at the back end of the bullpen. Together, they represent two different but equally valuable pieces of a club trying to finish the first half strong.

For Perich, the next step is continuing to adjust to Double-A pitching while maintaining the power surge that made him one of the top hitters in the minors during May. For Bormie, the challenge is sustaining his late-inning consistency as Frisco’s games become even more meaningful.

The timing of both awards is fitting. The RoughRiders have been gaining momentum, and individual performances like these have helped push the club into contention.

May belonged to Perich and Bormie. Now, both will look to carry that production into June as Frisco continues its climb in the Texas League.
