STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | July 5, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders return to Riders Field on Sunday evening with one goal in front of them: close the homestand with a win and salvage a split against the Midland RockHounds.
Frisco meets Midland, the Double-A affiliate of the Athletics, at 6:05 p.m. in the finale of a six-game series. Left-hander Dylan MacLean is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders, entering with a 5-1 record and a 4.29 ERA. Midland will counter with right-hander Kenya Huggins, who comes in at 1-3 with a 6.00 ERA.
The RoughRiders enter the matchup at 5-6 in the second half and 44-35 overall after falling 8-2 on Saturday night. Midland improved to 8-3 in the second half and 40-39 overall, using early power to take control in front of a record-setting Riders Field crowd.
Saturday’s game drew 12,198 fans, the largest attendance mark in RoughRiders franchise history. The crowd surpassed the previous record set on July 3, 2025, creating a memorable Fourth of July atmosphere even as Midland spoiled the celebration on the field.
Frisco RoughRiders Aim for Victory in Series Finale
The RockHounds jumped on Frisco starter Ben Anderson early. Devin Taylor and Leo De Vries launched back-to-back home runs in a three-run first inning, immediately putting the RoughRiders in chase mode. Midland starter Henry Baez protected the lead by striking out the side in the bottom half, keeping Frisco from answering.
Midland added two more runs in the second inning before Taylor delivered his second home run of the game in the fourth, stretching the RockHounds’ advantage to 6-0. Frisco did not record its first hit until the fifth, when Malcolm Moore led off with a double. Moore later scored on wild pitches as the RoughRiders pushed across two runs to cut the deficit to 6-2, but Midland kept the game out of reach.
Jake Garland provided two scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Midland, helping bridge the RockHounds to the win. The visitors added two more runs in the seventh to finish off the night.
For Frisco, Sunday offers a chance to reset behind MacLean. The left-hander has been one of the club’s most dependable starters this season and gets the ball with the series on the line. A win would give the RoughRiders a split and help steady a team still searching for second-half consistency after already locking up a postseason berth.
Frisco clinched a playoff spot on June 18 by winning the Texas League South Division first-half title. It marked the RoughRiders’ 11th playoff appearance in franchise history and their first since 2024. The club finished the first half 39-29, good for the eighth-best winning percentage in franchise history.
Even with October secured, the RoughRiders continue to chase momentum. Their pitching staff has shown strong swing-and-miss ability this week, highlighted by Aidan Curry’s season-best 11 strikeouts on Tuesday against Midland. Curry’s total tied the highest mark by a Texas League starter this season and was the most by a Frisco starter since Emiliano Teodo struck out 11 Amarillo hitters on June 16, 2024. The RoughRiders also struck out 18 as a team Tuesday, their highest total since April 23, 2025.
Despite only striking out six Saturday, Frisco remains tied for the Texas League lead with 59 strikeouts this week. That ability to miss bats will be key Sunday against a Midland lineup that has punished mistakes throughout the series.
Offensively, Frisco will look for a bounce-back game. The RoughRiders are 8-9 against Midland this season, hitting .252 with a .345 on-base percentage, a .414 slugging percentage and 17 home runs in 17 games.
Frainyer Chavez remains the lineup’s most consistent table-setter. The Texas League Player of the Week from the previous series in Amarillo is batting .362 over his last 39 games with 14 doubles, seven home runs, 24 RBIs and 34 runs scored. For the season, Chavez ranks among the league leaders in batting average, on-base percentage, OPS, hits, doubles, walks, extra-base hits and runs scored.
The RoughRiders also continue to carry one of Double-A’s most productive offenses. Through 79 games, Frisco ranks second in Double-A with 714 hits and second in OPS. The Riders lead the Texas League in batting average and doubles while ranking second in runs.
Power has been a major piece of that production. Frisco tied a franchise record with 17 home runs during last week’s six-game series in Amarillo, and its 104 home runs through 79 games are the most in franchise history at this point in a season.
Sunday’s finale gives Frisco a chance to put that offense back on display and finish the homestand with energy. With MacLean on the mound and a series split within reach, the RoughRiders will look to answer quickly and send the Riders Field crowd home with a strong close.
