MiLB Preview: Frisco RoughRiders Look to Bounce Back Behind Blake Townsend in Game Two Against Missions

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | May 20, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders return to Riders Field Wednesday night looking to even their series against the San Antonio Missions after a high-scoring loss in Tuesday’s opener.

Frisco RoughRiders Aim for Redemption in Game Two

First pitch for the second game of the six-game set is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with Wine Wednesday presented by Landon Winery featuring wine specials throughout the evening.

Frisco will hand the ball to left-hander Blake Townsend, while San Antonio counters with lefty Jagger Haynes in a matchup of two young starters trying to settle into consistent rhythm early in the season.

The RoughRiders enter the night after falling 12-6 to San Antonio in Tuesday afternoon’s series opener, a game heavily influenced by the Missions’ power surge.

San Antonio launched four home runs, including a three-run blast from Braedon Karpathios in the opening inning and back-to-back homers in the second inning that helped the Missions quickly seize momentum.

Despite the loss, Frisco’s offense once again showed why it remains one of the most dangerous lineups in Double-A baseball.

The RoughRiders answered San Antonio’s early scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, fueled by a two-run single from Keyber Rodriguez and an RBI base hit from Marcus Lee Sang.

Rodriguez continued his remarkable season by finishing with another multi-hit game and three RBIs.

The infielder has emerged as one of the premier hitters in the Texas League, currently ranking near the top of the league in batting average, hits, doubles and total bases. Over his last 17 games, Rodriguez is batting .351 with an OPS approaching .960.

His consistency at the plate has become one of the biggest reasons Frisco’s offense continues producing at such a high level.

The RoughRiders are currently leading the Texas League in hits, runs scored, batting average, slugging percentage and OPS through 39 games this season.

Few players have energized the lineup recently more than newly promoted slugger Arturo Disla.

Nicknamed “The Buffalo,” Disla has immediately become a fan favorite since arriving from High-A Hub City earlier this month. Through his first six Double-A games, Disla is hitting an eye-popping .458 with two home runs, a triple and 10 RBIs.

He added another solo home run Tuesday — his first at Riders Field — and continues to provide a major power boost in the middle of Frisco’s order.

The 22-year-old’s rapid offensive emergence has added another dangerous weapon to a lineup already filled with breakout performers.

Meanwhile, outfielder Dylan Dreiling continues swinging one of the hottest bats in the organization.

The Rangers’ No. 10 prospect recently captured Texas League Player of the Week honors after a dominant stretch that included four home runs in five games. Over his last 11 contests, Dreiling is batting .350 with four home runs, 14 walks and a 1.194 OPS.

Frisco’s offensive production overall has been staggering during the past month.

Over their last 21 games, the RoughRiders are averaging more than seven runs per contest while slugging 30 home runs during that stretch alone.

The challenge Wednesday becomes limiting San Antonio’s offense and preventing another early deficit.

That responsibility falls largely on Townsend, who delivered one of the best starts by any RoughRiders pitcher this season last week in Midland.

The left-hander dominated the RockHounds lineup by working 7.1 scoreless innings, becoming just the second Frisco starting pitcher since 2018 to record an out in the eighth inning.

It was not only the longest outing by a RoughRiders pitcher this season, but also tied for the fourth-longest start by any pitcher in Minor League Baseball in 2026.

Townsend’s ability to attack the strike zone and pitch efficiently helped stabilize a Frisco rotation that has shown signs of improvement over the last two weeks.

If he can replicate that level of command Wednesday night, the RoughRiders could quickly shift momentum back in their favor.

San Antonio, however, continues arriving with confidence after Tuesday’s offensive explosion.

Top Padres prospect Ethan Salas remains one of the headliners in the Missions lineup, while the club’s aggressive approach at the plate consistently applied pressure throughout the opener.

For Frisco, the formula remains simple.

The offense has already proven capable of scoring against anyone in the league.

Now the RoughRiders need a cleaner night on the mound and stronger execution defensively if they hope to even the series and continue building on what has otherwise been one of the organization’s strongest offensive stretches in recent years.
