STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | June 4, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders return to Riders Field on Thursday night with a chance to carry the energy from one of their wildest wins of the season into the third game of their six-game series against the Springfield Cardinals.
Frisco RoughRiders: Key Players to Watch
Frisco meets Springfield, the Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, at 7:05 p.m. CT. Right-hander Winston Santos is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders, while Springfield will send left-hander Liam Doyle to the mound. Santos enters at 0-2 with an 8.26 ERA, while Doyle comes in at 0-3 with a 5.82 ERA.
The series is tied at one game apiece after Frisco pulled off an 8-7 walk-off win Wednesday night. The RoughRiders trailed by multiple runs on more than one occasion before Rafe Perich ended the game with one swing in the ninth inning.
Springfield built an early 3-0 lead against Frisco starter Blake Townsend, scoring twice in the second and once more in the fourth. The RoughRiders were held scoreless through five innings by Cardinals starter Mason Molina before the offense finally broke through.
That spark came from Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford, who is with Frisco on an MLB rehab assignment. Langford launched a two-run home run in the sixth inning to cut Springfield’s lead to 3-2. The Cardinals responded with two runs in the seventh on a Zach Levenson single, stretching the lead back to three.
Frisco answered with a four-run bottom of the seventh. Frainyer Chavez tied the game with a single, and Arturo Disla worked an RBI walk to give the RoughRiders their first lead of the night. After Springfield forced a 7-7 tie, Wilian Bormie threw a scoreless ninth, setting the stage for Perich.
Perich jumped on a hanging breaking ball from DJ Carpenter and sent it over the right-field wall for the walk-off homer. The blast was his second home run in his first five games with Frisco and his 13th overall this season, the most by any hitter in the Rangers’ minor league system.
Perich has made an immediate impression since joining the RoughRiders. On Sunday in Arkansas, he hit a solo home run and added an RBI single in a 2-1 win. Three days later, he delivered the walk-off shot in Frisco. Before his promotion, Perich was named South Atlantic League Player of the Month for May with High-A Hub City after hitting .345 with a .448 on-base percentage, .747 slugging percentage, 10 home runs and 29 RBI.
The RoughRiders have also benefited from the attention surrounding MLB rehab assignments. Corey Seager and Langford began their rehab stints Tuesday. Seager is working back from lower back inflammation, while Langford is recovering from a right forearm strain.
Both went 1-for-2 in Tuesday’s opener, with Langford also drawing two walks, stealing a base and scoring a run. Langford then homered Wednesday, giving him seven home runs in 17 career Double-A games.
Frisco’s lineup has been strong beyond the rehab stars. Disla, nicknamed “The Buffalo,” continues to produce since joining the club. He has hit safely in 13 of his first 17 games with the RoughRiders and is batting .343 with a .429 on-base percentage, .552 slugging mark, three home runs and 15 RBI. Between High-A Hub City and Frisco, Disla has been especially dangerous against left-handed pitching, hitting .436 with a 1.335 OPS against southpaws.
Dylan Dreiling also remains one of Frisco’s most consistent offensive pieces. The Rangers’ No. 10 prospect is ninth in the Texas League with a .291 average and carries a 22-game on-base streak, the longest active streak in the league. During that stretch, Dreiling is batting .306 with a .417 on-base percentage, five home runs, 17 RBI and 17 walks.
As a team, the RoughRiders continue to rank among the Texas League’s best offenses. Through 51 games, Frisco is second in the league with 466 hits, second in batting average at .269 and second in runs with 319. The Riders are also fourth in home runs with 66, first in slugging percentage at .443 and second in OPS at .808.
The key has been turning offense into separation. Frisco is 17-1 when scoring eight or more runs but just 10-23 when scoring seven or fewer. The Riders are also 11-14 in games decided by one or two runs, showing how often their games have come down to late execution.
Thursday gives Santos a chance to settle in and help Frisco take control of the series. With the offense rolling, Perich heating up and the Riders coming off a dramatic walk-off win, Frisco enters the third game with momentum and another opportunity to make noise at Riders Field.
