STWF Sports | CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas | July 7, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders head back to the Gulf Coast on Tuesday night with momentum, power and a postseason ticket already secured.
Understanding the Impact of the Frisco RoughRiders’ Offense
Frisco opens a six-game road series against the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, at 6:35 p.m. from Whataburger Field. Right-hander Aidan Curry is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders, entering at 2-1 with a 6.68 ERA. Corpus Christi will counter with right-hander Jackson Nezuh, who comes in at 2-2 with a 4.18 ERA.
The RoughRiders arrive after an 8-7 win over the Midland RockHounds on Sunday at Riders Field, a victory that helped Frisco split the six-game set. After being held in check on the Fourth of July, the Riders responded with 13 hits and five doubles, showing again how quickly their lineup can change a game.
Midland jumped ahead early Sunday, but Frisco answered with eight unanswered runs. Max Wagner sparked the comeback with a two-run double in the second inning, while Ian Moller, Dylan Dreiling and Julian Brock helped fuel a six-run third. Brock’s three-run double gave the Riders separation, and Jonathan Brand later closed the door with a strikeout in the ninth to earn his second save.
Now the RoughRiders turn to Curry, who is coming off one of the best strikeout performances by a Texas League pitcher this season. In his last start against Midland, Curry punched out a season-high 11 batters over 5.2 innings. That total tied the most strikeouts by a Texas League starter this year and marked the highest single-game strikeout total by a Frisco starter since Emiliano Teodo struck out 11 Amarillo hitters on June 16, 2024.
Frisco’s staff struck out 18 batters as a team in that game, its most since April 23, 2025 against Corpus Christi. The RoughRiders finished last week with 73 strikeouts, the most in the Texas League and the third-highest total in Minor League Baseball.
The setting has also been favorable for Frisco. This marks the RoughRiders’ third trip to Corpus Christi this season before the Hooks have made a visit to Frisco. The Riders are 6-3 at Whataburger Field in 2026, including a three-game sweep to open the year. In nine games by the bay, Frisco has hit 14 home runs while batting .274 with an .813 OPS and averaging 6.7 runs per game.
Wagner has enjoyed the trip more than most, leading Frisco with four home runs in Corpus Christi. Orlando Martinez has also been productive against his former club, hitting .324 in the matchup.
Frisco enters the series as one of the most dangerous offenses in Double-A. Through 80 games, the RoughRiders rank second in Double-A with 727 hits and lead the Texas League with a .268 team batting average. They also sit near the top of the league in runs, doubles, slugging percentage and OPS.
Frainyer Chavez remains the tone-setter. The infielder has been one of the hottest hitters in the league, carrying a .301 average, .406 on-base percentage and .894 OPS. Over his last 39 games, Chavez is batting .362 with 14 doubles, seven home runs, 24 RBIs and 34 runs scored.
The RoughRiders have also leaned heavily on power. Their 104 home runs through 80 games are the most in franchise history at this point in a season, and Frisco recently tied a franchise record with 17 homers in a six-game series at Amarillo.
With a first-half South Division title already secured, the Riders are postseason bound for the 11th time in franchise history. But Tuesday begins another opportunity to sharpen their form, keep the bats hot and continue building toward October.
