MiLB Preview: Frisco RoughRiders Open Six-Game Homestand Against Midland RockHounds

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas |June 30, 2026  — The Frisco RoughRiders return to Riders Field tonight looking to turn the page quickly after a tough finish in Amarillo, opening a six-game series against the Midland RockHounds, the Double-A affiliate of the Athletics, at 7:05 p.m. The Frisco RoughRiders are eager to showcase their talent.

Right-hander Aidan Curry is scheduled to take the mound for the Frisco RoughRiders, entering the matchup with a 2-1 record and a 7.46 ERA. Midland counters with right-hander Kenya Huggins, who comes in at 1-3 with a 5.56 ERA. The series begins a key stretch for the RoughRiders club that has already punched its postseason ticket but continues to chase rhythm and consistency in the second half.

The Frisco RoughRiders are excited to kick off this homestand.

Frisco enters the series at 42-32 overall and 3-3 in the second half after splitting its series with the Amarillo Sod Poodles. The finale, however, was one the RoughRiders will be eager to leave behind. Amarillo rolled to an 18-4 win Sunday at HODGETOWN, fueled by 19 hits and a historic day from Demetrio Crisantes, who hit for the cycle.

The RoughRiders did show flashes of their usual power. Dylan Dreiling launched a two-run homer in the second inning, while Frainyer Chavez and Marcus Lee Sang added solo shots later in the game. Still, Amarillo’s lineup controlled the afternoon, scoring five runs off starter Dylan MacLean and adding 13 more against the bullpen.

Why the Frisco RoughRiders Are a Team to Watch This Season

Now, Frisco shifts its attention to Midland, a familiar Texas League South opponent. The RoughRiders and RockHounds split their first two series of the season. Midland took four of six at Riders Field in April, while Frisco answered by winning four of six on the road in May. Through 12 games against the RockHounds this year, Frisco has produced a strong offensive line, hitting .272 with a .364 on-base percentage, a .441 slugging percentage and 13 home runs while averaging 6.1 runs per game.

The Frisco RoughRiders aim for victory in their next matchup.

Julian Brock has done the most damage in the power department against Midland, clubbing three home runs in the season series. Chavez and Dreiling have also been steady contributors, leading active RoughRiders hitters with 13 hits apiece against the RockHounds.

Frisco’s offense remains one of the most dangerous in Double-A. Through 74 games, the Frisco RoughRiders lead Double-A with 682 hits and pace the Texas League in batting average at .271. They are also tied for first in the league with 466 runs, averaging 6.5 runs per game. The Frisco RoughRiders rank first in doubles with 136, second in slugging percentage at .452 and first in OPS at .816.

That production has helped carry the RoughRiders to another postseason appearance. Frisco clinched the Texas League South Division first-half title on June 18, securing the franchise’s 11th playoff berth and first since 2024. The RoughRiders finished the first half 39-29, good for a .567 winning percentage, their best mark since 2024 and the eighth-best first-half winning percentage in club history.

One of the biggest reasons for that success has been Chavez, who continues to swing one of the hottest bats in the Texas League. The RoughRiders infielder was named Texas League Player of the Week after a standout series in Amarillo, batting .481 with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBIs and seven runs scored.

In the context of the Frisco RoughRiders’ success this season, team dynamics play a vital role.

His recent stretch has been even more impressive. Over his last 34 games, Chavez is hitting .382 with 14 doubles, six home runs, 22 RBIs, 24 walks and 31 runs scored. Since May 20, he leads the Texas League in batting average, hits and doubles, while ranking near the top of the league in OPS and extra-base hits. He enters the Midland series riding a 10-game hitting streak, batting .524 during that span with four home runs and 12 RBIs.

Max Wagner has also added a major spark to the lineup. In his last seven games, Wagner has hit five home runs, including the first three-homer game of his career on June 26. During that stretch, he is slugging .958 and has continued to give Frisco another middle-of-the-order power threat.

Fans appreciate the efforts of the Frisco RoughRiders as they continue to impress on the field.

The RoughRiders tied a franchise record last week with 17 home runs in a six-game series, with Chavez, Dreiling and Wagner each going deep three times. As a team, Frisco hit .323 in the series and averaged 6.7 runs per game.

The late innings have also been a strength. Frisco leads Double-A with 161 runs scored in the seventh inning or later and owns a 3.74 ERA from the seventh inning on, the best mark in the Texas League.

As the Frisco RoughRiders take the field tonight, the excitement is palpable.

Tonight offers the RoughRiders a chance to reset at home, continue their offensive surge and begin building momentum against a Midland club they know well.

The Frisco RoughRiders are ready to make their mark.
