STWF Sports | SAN ANTONIO | June 9, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders will look to keep their first-half push rolling Tuesday night when they open a six-game road series against the San Antonio Missions, the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, at Wolff Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. as Frisco sends right-hander Aidan Curry to the mound. Curry enters with an 0-1 record and a 15.95 ERA and will face Missions right-hander Victor Lizarraga, who comes in at 2-5 with a 6.70 ERA.
The RoughRiders arrive in San Antonio with momentum after closing their previous series with a doubleheader sweep of the Springfield Cardinals. Frisco won both games Sunday by identical 6-4 scores at Riders Field, taking the series four games to two and improving to 30-25.
The Rise of the Frisco RoughRiders in the Texas League
The sweep was built on timely offense, late power and steady bullpen work. In the first game, the Riders answered an early Springfield run with a leadoff solo homer from rehabbing Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith. After Springfield moved back in front with two runs in the second inning, Frisco responded again in the third with a Dylan Dreiling RBI single and a Keith Jones II fielder’s choice.
The game was tied 4-4 entering the fifth when Josh Trentadue delivered a scoreless relief inning. Rafe Perich then provided the swing of the game, launching a go-ahead home run off Jack Findlay. A Dreiling sacrifice fly added insurance before Wilian Bormie secured his third save of the season.
Perich was not finished.
In the second game, he drove in Smith with a first-inning single to give Frisco an early lead. Springfield tied the game in the third, but the RoughRiders broke through in the sixth. Perich hit his second go-ahead homer of the day, a two-run shot that put Frisco ahead 3-1. Ian Moller followed with a two-run homer of his own, and Orlando Martinez added an RBI double to stretch the lead to 6-1. The Cardinals rallied late, but Frisco held on to complete the sweep.
Perich has quickly become one of the hottest names in the Rangers system. Since joining Frisco, the infielder has homered four times in his first eight games with the club. His late-game power has been especially valuable, including a walk-off homer earlier in the week and two go-ahead blasts in Sunday’s doubleheader.
Between High-A Hub City and Frisco, Perich was named the Rangers’ May Minor League Player of the Month after hitting .327 with a .427 on-base percentage, .714 slugging percentage and 1.141 OPS. He totaled 11 home runs and 32 RBIs during the month. His 15 total homers lead the Rangers organization and rank among the top non-Triple-A totals in the minors.
Frisco’s offense has been a major reason for its recent surge. Over its last 37 games, the club is 22-15 while scoring 239 runs, an average of 6.5 per game. The Riders have slashed .263/.371/.439 during that span with 48 home runs.
The first inning has been one of Frisco’s biggest weapons. The RoughRiders have scored 52 first-inning runs this season, one of the best marks in the minors. They are hitting .302 in the opening frame with 12 home runs and have scored in the first inning 24 times.
Dreiling has been a key part of that early offense. The Rangers’ No. 10 prospect enters the San Antonio series on a 26-game on-base streak, the longest active streak in the Texas League and the 10th-longest in RoughRiders franchise history. During the streak, Dreiling is hitting .316 with a .425 on-base percentage, six home runs, 23 RBIs and 20 walks.
Arturo Disla has also added impact since joining Frisco. Nicknamed “The Buffalo,” Disla is hitting .312 with an .905 OPS for the RoughRiders. Between Hub City and Frisco, he has been especially dangerous against left-handed pitching, batting .409 with a 1.245 OPS against southpaws.
Frisco’s starting pitching will also be under the spotlight in San Antonio. The RoughRiders are 14-7 when their starter completes at least five innings and 4-0 when receiving a quality start. That makes Curry’s outing important as Frisco tries to set the tone for the series.
The Riders have shown they can score late and protect close games, ranking among the best Double-A clubs in both late-inning offense and late-inning ERA. Now, they will try to carry that formula on the road against a division opponent.
With Perich surging, Dreiling reaching base every night and the offense producing up and down the lineup, Frisco opens the San Antonio series with confidence and plenty to play for in the Texas League race.
