STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | June 21, 2026— The Frisco RoughRiders will close their seven-game series against the Arkansas Travelers on Sunday night with a major-league spotlight on the mound.
Texas Rangers left-hander Jordan Montgomery is slated to begin a rehab assignment with Frisco when the RoughRiders host Arkansas, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, at 6:05 p.m. from Riders Field. Montgomery, listed at 0-0 with no ERA for Frisco, is expected to start opposite Travelers right-hander Adam Leverett, who enters at 2-1 with a 4.44 ERA.
The assignment adds extra intrigue to a finale that already carries plenty of momentum for Frisco. The RoughRiders enter Sunday at 38-29 after securing their fourth consecutive full series win with a 4-2 victory over Arkansas on Saturday night. Frisco also recently clinched the Texas League South Division first-half title, locking up a postseason berth for the 11th time in franchise history and the first time since 2024.
Montgomery’s appearance gives Rangers fans a chance to track the progress of a familiar championship arm. The veteran left-hander rejoined Texas in February on a one-year free-agent contract while recovering from Tommy John surgery. His return to game action in the Rangers’ system marks an important step as the organization evaluates his path back to the major-league rotation.
Jordan Montgomery’s Impact on the Team
Frisco comes into the matchup riding the strength of timely power, strong bullpen work and a lineup that has remained one of the most productive in the Texas League. Saturday’s win was another example of that formula.
The RoughRiders grabbed the first lead in the third inning when Orlando Martinez doubled home Dylan Dreiling for a 1-0 advantage. Arkansas responded in the fifth, using RBI singles from Jared Sundstrom and Bill Knight to move ahead 2-1 against Frisco starter Ben Anderson.
The Riders answered immediately. Max Wagner tied the game in the bottom half of the fifth with his first home run at Riders Field, bringing the score even at 2-2. Anderson worked 5.1 innings, allowing two runs while benefiting from three double plays behind him.
The decisive swing came in the seventh, when Arturo Disla continued his dominant week by launching a two-run homer onto the berm in left-center field off Teddy McGraw. It was Disla’s third home run of the series and pushed Frisco ahead 4-2. Jonathan Brand followed with 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, and Zach Bryant recorded the final out for his first save of the season.
Disla has been a problem for Arkansas all series, collecting nine hits, three home runs and nine RBIs through the first six games. Against the Travelers this season, he is hitting .366 with 15 hits and three homers in 11 games. Frainyer Chavez has also fueled Frisco in the season series, batting .375 with 15 hits and two home runs in 10 games.
Chavez remains one of the club’s hottest hitters overall. In his last 27 games, he is batting .343 with a .446 on-base percentage, a .549 slugging percentage, 12 doubles, three home runs, 14 RBIs, 18 walks and 23 runs scored. He also hit his third leadoff home run of the year during the June 17 doubleheader and has already matched his career high with eight home runs, doing so in 47 fewer games than last season.
The RoughRiders have controlled the season series against Arkansas, going 7-4 while outscoring the Travelers 62-47. Frisco pitching has held Arkansas to a .207 batting average and a .661 OPS, giving the Riders an edge on both sides of the matchup.
The bullpen has been especially sharp. Frisco’s relief corps owns a 3.78 ERA, third-best in Double-A and the top mark in the Texas League. Over the last 23 games, the Riders’ bullpen has posted a league-best 3.00 ERA. That late-game stability has paired well with an offense that has scored 152 runs in the seventh inning or later, the most in Double-A.
Rafe Perich has added another dangerous bat since joining Frisco, homering five times in his first 20 games with the club. Each of his five RoughRiders home runs has either tied the game or given Frisco the lead. His 16 total home runs this season lead the Rangers organization.
As Frisco looks to finish the series strong, Sunday’s finale brings both playoff energy and major-league curiosity to Riders Field. With Montgomery on the mound and the RoughRiders rolling into the postseason picture, the first-half finale offers one of the most anticipated nights of the season in Frisco.
