MiLB Preview Patience and Power: Frisco RoughRiders Eye Series Split with San Antonio in Sunday Finale

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | May 24, 2026  — Minor league baseball is a test of endurance, and the Frisco RoughRiders are showing they have the grit to match their elite talent. Tonight at Riders Field, the RoughRiders (22-21) will wrap up their six-game set against the San Antonio Missions (17-27) with a clear objective: secure a hard-fought series split.

Following a dramatic, come-from-behind victory on Saturday night, Frisco sends left-hander Dylan MacLean (3-0, 5.01 ERA) to the mound for the 6:05 p.m. CT finale. He will square off against San Antonio right-hander Miguel Mendez (1-0, 4.67 ERA) in a high-stakes battle of structural execution.

Saturday’s Blueprint: Weaponizing the Strike Zone

Frisco enters the finale riding the momentum of a thrilling 7-5 comeback victory on Saturday. The Missions struck early, tagging Leandro Lopez for four quick hits and building a 4-0 advantage by the third inning, punctuated by a Romeo Sanabria two-run blast.

However, the RoughRiders refused to panic, chipping away against San Antonio’s MLB-rehabbing starter Jhony Brito. An RBI double from Frainyer Chavez and an RBI single by John Taylor cut the deficit in half, followed by a Cody Freeman sacrifice fly in the fourth to bring Frisco within one.

The defining moment arrived in the bottom of the seventh when the RoughRiders sent 10 hitters to the plate, showcasing an elite approach that yielded a season-high 10 walks. Arturo Disla tied the game with a clutch RBI single before Keith Jones II and Corey Joyce drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks to seize a 7-5 lead. The bullpen locked it down from there, with Josh Sborz earning the win and Jonathan Brand securing his first Double-A save by retiring the final six Missions in order.

“The Buffalo” Anchors a Historic Attack

A major storyline for Frisco has been the spectacular arrival of infielder Arturo Disla. Nicknamed “The Buffalo,” Disla has been an absolute nightmare for Texas League pitching since his promotion last week.

  • The Stat Line: Disla has hit safely in eight of his first nine Double-A games, carrying a blistering .429/.524/.714 slash line with two home runs and 11 RBIs. After a minor speed bump on Thursday, he roared back with a three-hit performance on Saturday to pace the lineup.

Disla is the latest addition to a lineup that leads the Texas League in virtually every major statistical category, including hits (403), team batting average (.274), runs scored (276), slugging (.455), and team OPS (.825). To illustrate their dominance, Frisco’s team OPS sits a staggering 41 points higher than second-place Amarillo.

Supporting Cast Piling Up Numbers

Beyond Disla, the RoughRiders boast an incredibly deep card of offensive weapons:

  • Corey Joyce: The minor league free-agent signing continues to look like a massive steal. Through 26 games, Joyce is hitting .309 with eight home runs and 25 RBIs, carrying an elite 1.012 OPS.

  • Keyber Rodriguez: A model of consistency, Rodriguez is tied for the league lead in doubles (12) and ranks second in hits (51). His seven 3-hit games lead all of Double-A.

  • Dylan Dreiling: The Texas Rangers’ No. 10 prospect is putting together a superb stretch, hitting .333 with a 1.054 OPS over his last 15 appearances.

Tactical Outlook: Striking First

The First-Inning Factor: For MacLean to protect his unblemished 3-0 record tonight, the offense will likely look to lean on their trademark early production. Frisco has plated 43 runs in the opening frame this season, ranking third across all of Minor League Baseball. They are hitting a combined .320 in the first inning and have scored early in 19 games this year.

When the RoughRiders hit their stride and cross the eight-run threshold, they are an imposing 13-1. Look for Frisco to attack Mendez early tonight, utilizing their signature blend of patience and power to dictate the tempo and salvage a series split on home turf.
