MiLB Recap The Great Escape: Frisco RoughRiders Erase Six-Run Deficit to Stun Travelers in 10-Inning Thriller

MiLB Baseball pitcher in action on mound

STWF Sports | NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. | May 26,2026 — The mark of a truly elite lineup is its refusal to panic when buried early. The Frisco RoughRiders put that mental fortitude on full display Tuesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park, orchestrating their most dramatic comeback victory of the 2026 season.

Frisco clawed their way back from a daunting six-run deficit to shock the Arkansas Travelers in a wild, 10-inning series-opening marathon, walking away with a thrilling 8-7 victory. With the win, the RoughRiders improve to 24-21, while the Seattle Mariners’ Double-A affiliate drops to 28-18.

Travelers Ambush Curry Early

Arkansas looked entirely poised to run away with the contest in the early frames, launching a furious attack against Frisco starter Aidan Curry. The Travelers capitalized on early command struggles, executing sequences beautifully to build a commanding 7-1 cushion by the conclusion of the third inning.

Frisco’s solitary offensive answer during the initial frames came in the top of the third, courtesy of a sharp, run-scoring single off the bat of John Taylor. At the time, it felt like minor consolation in what was rapidly becoming a blowout, but it ultimately served as the spark for a historic recovery.

Chipping Away at the Mountain

Displaying the patient, disciplined approach that has anchored their league-leading offensive metrics all year, the RoughRiders began systematically dismantling the Arkansas advantage in the fourth inning.

Frisco loaded the bases against the Travelers’ pitching staff, allowing Frainyer Chavez to calmly draw a bases-loaded free pass to push a run across. Moments later, outfielder Dylan Dreiling delivered the first loudest blow of the night, lacing a clutch, two-run single to instantly slash the deficit to 7-4.

The relentless pressure carried over into the fifth frame. Infielder Corey Joyce weaponized his strike-zone awareness to coax yet another bases-juiced walk, pulling the visitors within striking distance at 7-5.

In the seventh, the comeback was finally realized. Orlando Martinez lined a textbook RBI single to bring the Riders within one, before Chavez stepped back into the spotlight. The dynamic infielder hammered a clutch RBI double deep into the gap, tying the contest at 7-7 and completely erasing the early wreckage.

Extra-Inning Drama and Bormie’s Lockdown

The deadlock persisted into extra innings, setting the stage for Taylor to bookend his stellar night. In the top of the 10th, Taylor came through with the ultimate situational hit, punishing Arkansas reliever Reid VanScoter (2-2) with a go-ahead RBI single that scored Chavez and handed Frisco its very first lead of the day at 8-7.

From there, the game was placed in the capable hands of Wilian Bormie. After navigating a flawless, 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth, Bormie (5-0) returned to the hill for the 10th. Showing why he remains unblemished in the win column this year, the reliever struck out two batters and allowed just a solitary baserunner via an intentional walk, slam-shutting the door to seal the epic comeback.

Notebook & Wednesday Preview

A Wild Affair: The contest was defined by heavy fundamental volatility on the mound, as the two clubs combined for a staggering 19 walks and six wild pitches over the course of the evening.

Offensively, Keyber Rodriguez continued his spectacular campaign, turning in a stellar 3-for-5 performance. The multi-hit masterpiece marked Rodriguez’s league-best eighth three-hit contest of the year, further solidifying his place atop the Texas League hierarchy.

The RoughRiders will look to keep the momentum rolling and capture back-to-back road wins as the six-game series continues on Wednesday, May 27th. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. CT. Frisco will hand the ball to left-hander Blake Townsend (2-2, 4.32 ERA), while Arkansas counters with right-hander Ryan Hawks (3-2, 3.32 ERA) in a highly anticipated pitching duel.
