MiLB Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Capture First Series Win Behind Power Surge, Dominant Pitching in Midland

STWF Sports | MIDLAND, Texas | May 17, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders are beginning to look like one of the hottest teams in the Texas League.

Powered by another explosive offensive performance and a strong outing from left-hander Dylan MacLean, the RoughRiders defeated the Midland RockHounds 8-3 Sunday afternoon at Momentum Bank Ballpark to secure their first six-game series victory of the 2026 season.

The win marked Frisco’s third consecutive victory and improved the club to 20-18 overall after taking four of six games from one of the top teams in the division.

After struggling to close out tight games earlier in the season, the RoughRiders now appear to be finding their rhythm offensively and on the mound at exactly the right time.

Why the Frisco RoughRiders Are on the Rise

Frisco wasted little time taking control Sunday.

The RoughRiders jumped ahead in the opening inning against Midland starter Henry Baez behind another productive performance from infielder Keith Jones II.

With runners on base early, Jones ripped a two-run double that plated both John Taylor and Dylan Dreiling to give Frisco a quick 2-0 lead.

Jones continued his outstanding month an inning later.

Leading off the third inning, the versatile infielder launched his fifth home run of the season off the Midland bullpen, extending the RoughRiders advantage to 4-0 and continuing a torrid offensive stretch throughout May.

The two-hit performance pushed Jones’ batting average to .333 during the month while raising his RBI total to 16 over just 11 May games.

His emergence has become another major boost for a Frisco lineup that already ranks among the most dangerous offenses in Double-A baseball.

Meanwhile, MacLean delivered another composed outing on the mound.

The left-hander opened the afternoon with three consecutive scoreless innings, effectively mixing speeds and limiting Midland’s hard contact early in counts.

Midland finally broke through in the fourth inning with a run, but MacLean remained in control throughout much of the afternoon. He finished with five innings pitched while allowing just four hits and two earned runs to improve to 3-0 on the season.

MacLean’s ability to consistently work into the middle innings has become increasingly important for a RoughRiders pitching staff still searching for long-term stability in the rotation.

But as strong as the pitching was, the offense once again stole the spotlight.

Holding a 6-1 lead later in the game, catcher Julian Brock delivered another towering blast that immediately energized the Frisco dugout.

Brock crushed a two-run home run deep over the outfield wall — his second massive homer in as many games — to stretch the RoughRiders lead to 8-1.

Just one night earlier, Brock launched an estimated 475-foot home run, officially the longest homer by a Frisco player this season. Sunday’s shot traveled an estimated 437 feet and continued his recent power surge.

The back-to-back long balls highlighted a growing confidence at the plate for Brock, who has steadily become an important contributor in the middle of the lineup.

Frisco’s bullpen then took over and slammed the door shut.

Relievers Ricardo Velez, Bryan Magdaleno and Dustin Saenz combined to cover the final four innings while allowing only one run.

Magdaleno, in particular, delivered one of the most efficient outings of the season.

The right-hander recorded five outs on just seven pitches, including a momentum-killing double play in the seventh inning before following it with a four-pitch eighth inning.

His quick work helped preserve the bullpen while allowing Frisco to comfortably close out the series-clinching victory.

Offensively, the RoughRiders once again showcased the lineup depth that has made them one of the top-scoring teams in the Texas League.

Frisco finished the six-game series averaging more than seven runs per game while consistently producing early offense, timely extra-base hits and late-inning execution.

The combination of power, contact hitting and aggressive baserunning has transformed the RoughRiders into one of the league’s most complete offensive clubs over the past several weeks.

Now, after securing their first series win of the season, Frisco will return home with momentum fully on its side.

Following an off day Monday, the RoughRiders head back to Riders Field to open a six-game homestand Tuesday morning against the San Antonio Missions during Education Day presented by Collin College.

And after the way Frisco closed out the week in Midland, the RoughRiders suddenly look like a team nobody in the Texas League wants to face right now.
