STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas June 21, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders closed the first half of the Texas League season the same way they spent much of the final series: finding timely offense, leaning on strong pitching and finishing with confidence at Riders Field.
The Rise of the Frisco RoughRiders in the Texas League
On a sunny Father’s Day afternoon in Frisco, the RoughRiders defeated the Arkansas Travelers 3-1 on Sunday, earning their fifth win of the seven-game series and putting a clean finish on an impressive first-half run.
The day carried extra attention before the first pitch, with Texas Rangers left-hander Jordan Montgomery beginning a rehab assignment for Frisco. Montgomery, making his first mound appearance since 2024, worked a scoreless opening inning. He allowed one double but finished the frame with a strikeout, giving Rangers and RoughRiders fans an early look at the veteran’s first step back into game action.
From there, Frisco’s pitching staff kept control.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, when Max Wagner continued his strong weekend at the plate. Facing Arkansas starter Adam Leverett, Wagner drove a home run over the left-center field wall to give the RoughRiders a 1-0 lead. The swing marked his second homer in as many games and his second at Riders Field, adding another timely contribution to Frisco’s late-series surge.
Arkansas briefly answered in the fourth. Hunter Fitz-Gerald launched a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1, giving the Travelers their lone offensive breakthrough of the afternoon. But Frisco did not allow the momentum to sit with Arkansas for long.
In the fifth, Wagner delivered again. This time, he came through with an RBI single that put the RoughRiders back in front, 2-1. After supplying the first run with power, Wagner gave Frisco the lead for good with a more controlled piece of run-producing contact.
That was enough support for Dylan MacLean.
Pitching with a one-run lead, MacLean settled in and worked into the seventh inning. He allowed just one run over 5.1 innings and continued to show why he has been one of Frisco’s most reliable arms. With the win, MacLean improved to 5-0, giving the RoughRiders another steady start on a day when they needed length after Montgomery’s planned one-inning rehab outing.
The bullpen protected the lead with authority.
Josh Trentadue handled the seventh inning in dominant fashion, striking out all three batters he faced in order. His fastball touched 97 miles per hour, adding power to a relief group that has been one of the RoughRiders’ biggest strengths throughout the closing stretch of the first half.
Frisco added insurance in the bottom of the eighth. Orlando Martinez, who has continued to provide steady production in key moments, delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-1. That run gave the RoughRiders a little more breathing room entering the final inning.
Joey Danielson took care of the rest, closing the door for his first career Double-A save. His finish capped a complete team win and sealed another strong day for a Frisco staff that limited Arkansas to one run.
The victory moved the RoughRiders to 39-29 and gave them five wins in the final series of the first half against an Arkansas club that entered the matchup as one of the Texas League’s top teams. The result also added to the momentum of a club that had already clinched the Texas League South Division first-half title and secured a postseason berth.
Sunday’s win offered a fitting snapshot of Frisco’s formula. Montgomery provided the headline, Wagner supplied the offense, MacLean carried the middle innings and the bullpen finished the job.
For a team already postseason bound, the RoughRiders closed the first half with another reminder that their success has been built on depth, timely execution and confidence in close games.
