STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | June 4, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders have spent the opening stretch of their series against the Springfield Cardinals living inside narrow margins. On Thursday night, another close game tilted away from them.
Frisco RoughRiders in a Competitive Matchup
Frisco fell 6-4 to Springfield at Riders Field, marking the third consecutive tight contest between the clubs to begin the six-game series. The RoughRiders dropped to 27-25, while Springfield improved to 25-18 behind timely power, late insurance and enough bullpen work to hold off another Frisco push.
The Riders struck first, and once again, Dylan Dreiling was at the center of the offense.
Dreiling opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, driving a home run over the left-center field wall against Springfield starter Liam Doyle. The solo shot gave Frisco a 1-0 lead and continued Dreiling’s strong offensive stretch.
That early advantage did not last long.
In the top of the second, Springfield answered with the biggest swing of the night. Dakota Harris connected for a three-run home run off Frisco starter Winston Santos, giving the Cardinals a 3-1 lead. It was a lead Springfield would not give back.
Santos settled in after the homer and gave the RoughRiders a chance to stay within reach. The right-hander retired the final nine batters he faced and completed five innings for the third consecutive start. He allowed three earned runs and struck out three, showing better command as the outing progressed despite taking the loss and falling to 0-3.
Frisco’s offense kept applying pressure but could not fully erase the deficit.
The RoughRiders scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull closer. Corey Joyce delivered one of the key swings with an RBI double, helping Frisco cut into Springfield’s lead and keep the home crowd engaged.
The Cardinals, however, continued to find answers. Each time the Riders moved within range, Springfield did just enough to stay in front.
Dreiling came through again in the bottom of the eighth, singling in a run to make it a one-run game. The hit brought Frisco within 5-4 and created another late-inning opportunity in a series that has already featured plenty of drama.
Springfield responded with a run of its own, pushing the lead to 6-4 before the bottom of the ninth. That insurance proved important.
Darlin Saladin closed the game for the Cardinals, securing his first save and preventing the RoughRiders from producing another late comeback at Riders Field.
For Frisco, the loss was frustrating because the ingredients for another rally were present. The Riders received production from Dreiling, got a stable finish from Santos after the early damage and remained within striking distance into the final innings. But the three-run homer in the second and Springfield’s late insurance run created too much to overcome.
Dreiling was the clear offensive standout for the RoughRiders. He finished with three hits, including the first-inning home run, and also drew a walk. His batting average climbed back above .300 to .306, and he extended his on-base streak to a league-best 23 consecutive games.
That streak has become one of the key storylines of Frisco’s season. Dreiling has continued to show consistency, plate discipline and the ability to produce in important spots. His early homer gave the Riders momentum, and his eighth-inning RBI single gave them another chance late.
The series itself has been defined by small differences. Frisco lost the opener 7-6 after scoring three times in the ninth but stranding two runners. The Riders bounced back Wednesday with an 8-7 walk-off win on Rafe Perich’s ninth-inning home run. Thursday followed the same competitive script, but Springfield made the final plays.
Now the RoughRiders will look to respond again Friday night.
Frisco is scheduled to start left-hander Dalton Pence, who enters at 1-1 with a 2.20 ERA. Springfield will counter with switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje, who comes in at 3-2 with a 5.21 ERA. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Riders Field.
Friday will also be Military Appreciation Night and Fireworks Friday, both presented by USAA. The evening will include a Pregame Veteran Resource Fair featuring organizations such as USAA, Heroes on the Water, VFW Post 8273, the Texas Veterans Commission, Airborne Angels, Operation Gratitude, Regiment, Combined Arms and GCU Military Division.
For the RoughRiders, the goal is simple: turn another close loss into a bounce-back win and keep the series from slipping away.
