MiLB Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Drop Extra-Inning Battle to Sod Poodles in Amarillo

STWF Sports | AMARILLO, Texas | June 24, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders had another late comeback in reach Wednesday night, but the Amarillo Sod Poodles delivered the final swing.

Frisco RoughRiders Game Highlights

Frisco fell 7-6 in 10 innings at HODGETOWN as Amarillo walked it off on an Alberto Barriga RBI single, handing the RoughRiders their first loss of the second half. The result evened the six-game series at one game apiece and dropped Frisco to 1-1 in the second half and 40-30 overall.

The RoughRiders entered the night after opening the second half with a 20-hit win Tuesday, and they again showed the ability to fight back from multiple deficits. This time, however, the late push was not enough.

Frisco grabbed the game’s first lead in the second inning against Amarillo starter Adonys Perez. With the bases loaded, Max Wagner worked a walk to force in a run and give the RoughRiders a 1-0 advantage.

Amarillo answered in the third with the biggest early swing of the night. Demetrio Crisantes connected for a three-run home run off Frisco left-hander Blake Townsend, turning the game around and putting the Sod Poodles ahead 3-1.

The RoughRiders responded quickly in the fourth. Keith Jones II delivered an RBI hit, and Frainyer Chavez followed with another run-scoring knock to tie the game at 3-3. Chavez continued his hot stretch at the plate, adding another multi-hit performance as one of Frisco’s most consistent offensive pieces.

Amarillo regained control in the bottom half of the fourth when Matt O’Neill lifted a solo home run off Townsend, pushing the Sod Poodles back in front 4-3. The home run gave Amarillo momentum again, and the Sod Poodles later extended the lead to 5-3.

Frisco’s offense did not stay quiet.

Down two entering the seventh, Malcolm Moore continued his early Double-A power surge with a two-run home run to tie the game at 5-5. The blast was Moore’s second homer in as many games and his second since joining the RoughRiders. Between High-A Hub City and Frisco, Moore is now up to 12 home runs on the season.

For a club that has leaned on timely power throughout the year, Moore’s swing was another big moment. His first two Double-A homers have come in back-to-back games, giving Frisco another dangerous bat in a lineup that has consistently produced runs.

The RoughRiders then moved ahead in the eighth. Arturo Disla lifted a sacrifice fly, scoring the go-ahead run and giving Frisco a 6-5 lead. At that point, the Riders appeared positioned to steal another comeback victory at HODGETOWN.

But Amarillo refused to fade.

The Sod Poodles tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, forcing extra innings and setting up the decisive 10th. In the bottom of the 10th, Barriga came through with the walk-off single, sending Amarillo to its first win of the second half.

Despite the loss, Frisco’s offense continued to generate traffic. Jones II reached base four times with two hits and two walks, while Chavez and Marcus Lee Sang also recorded multi-hit games. The RoughRiders again showed the depth of their lineup, even on a night when Amarillo found the final answer.

The defeat ended Frisco’s chance at a second straight win to open the second half, but the team remains in strong position after clinching the Texas League South Division first-half title last week. Wednesday’s game also served as another reminder of how dangerous HODGETOWN can be, especially when both lineups begin trading swings.

With the series tied 1-1, the RoughRiders and Sod Poodles return Thursday night for game three. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Amarillo is expected to start right-hander Ashton Izzi, who enters at 3-2 with a 4.20 ERA. Frisco has not yet announced its probable starter.
