MiLB Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Fall in Another Heartbreaker as Naturals Win Extra-Inning Battle at Riders Field

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | May 9, 2026 — For the second consecutive night, the Frisco RoughRiders found themselves one big hit away from victory. And for the second straight game, that final swing never came.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals outlasted Frisco 8-7 in 10 innings Saturday night at Riders Field, handing the RoughRiders another painful one-run defeat in a series that continues producing dramatic finishes.

Despite multiple comeback moments and a breakout power performance from Dylan Dreiling, Frisco was unable to complete a late rally after Northwest Arkansas exploded for three runs in the top of the 10th inning.

The loss dropped the RoughRiders to 16-16 on the season while the Naturals improved to 18-14 and secured at least a split of the six-game series.

Highlights from the Frisco RoughRiders Season

Dreiling wasted no time setting the tone offensively for Frisco.

Batting second in the bottom of the first inning, the center fielder launched a solo home run over the left field wall to give the RoughRiders an immediate 1-0 lead against Naturals starter Henry Williams.

Then, two innings later, Dreiling did it again.

Leading off the bottom of the third, the 23-year-old crushed another solo shot — this time to left-center field — extending Frisco’s lead to 2-0 and energizing the Riders Field crowd.

The two-homer performance marked the first multi-home run game of Dreiling’s professional career and continued what has become a massive week at the plate for the young outfielder.

Dreiling now has four home runs in the series alone and is tied for the team lead with six homers on the season.

Northwest Arkansas eventually responded in the fourth inning against RoughRiders starter Dylan MacLean.

The Naturals battled back to tie the game at 2-2, capitalizing on defensive pressure and timely hitting against the left-hander. Still, MacLean once again showed toughness on the mound despite not having his sharpest outing.

The southpaw worked into the fifth inning for the fifth time in six starts this season while allowing only one earned run across 4.2 innings of work.

MacLean now leads all Frisco pitchers with 27.1 innings pitched this season, continuing to provide consistency within the rotation.

After Northwest Arkansas tied the game, Frisco answered immediately.

Keith Jones II delivered an RBI single that pushed the RoughRiders back in front 3-2, continuing a strong offensive night for the outfielder. Jones later added a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning and finished with his first multi-hit performance since April 17 at Amarillo.

The back-and-forth battle continued into the sixth inning.

Northwest Arkansas used solo home runs from former RoughRider Jorge Alfaro and Spencer Nivens to regain momentum offensively. Alfaro, a veteran Major League catcher with extensive MLB experience, once again proved to be one of the most dangerous bats in the series.

Frisco countered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning.

Max Wagner drew a bases-loaded walk before Jake Snider added an RBI fielder’s choice, helping the RoughRiders stay even with the Naturals as the game evolved into another late-night slugfest.

Wagner also quietly turned in one of his best performances since joining Frisco, recording his first three-hit game as a RoughRider.

Neither team scored again through the ninth inning as both bullpens settled the game down temporarily.

Northwest Arkansas reliever Dennis Colleran Jr. delivered two scoreless innings to keep the game tied and ultimately earned the victory.

Then came the decisive 10th inning.

With runners aboard, Alfaro delivered the knockout blow.

The former RoughRider crushed his second home run of the night — a three-run shot against Frisco reliever Zach Bryant — to suddenly give Northwest Arkansas an 8-5 lead.

Even then, the RoughRiders nearly answered one final time.

Ian Moller singled home a run before Jones II added a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 8-7. Frisco eventually brought both the tying and winning runs aboard, creating another tense late-game moment at Riders Field.

But Naturals closer Brandon Johnson induced a flyout from Corey Joyce on the first pitch he threw, ending the game and securing his third save of the season.

Now, Frisco will attempt to salvage a split in Sunday’s series finale.

The RoughRiders are scheduled to send right-hander David Davalillo to the mound against Northwest Arkansas left-hander Hunter Owen in a 6:05 p.m. Mother’s Day matchup at Riders Field.

Sunday’s festivities will include pregame catch on the field, Kids Sunday Funday activities presented by Raising Cane’s, a Kendra Scott pop-up benefiting the RoughRiders Foundation and additional fan experiences throughout the ballpark.
