MiLB Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Falls Apart Late as Tulsa Drillers Completes Sweep

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas| April 22, 2026 — A promising start to the homestand quickly turned into a difficult night for the Frisco RoughRiders, who were swept in a Tuesday doubleheader by the Tulsa Drillers at Riders Field, falling 5-0 in game one and 12-6 in extra innings in game two.

Challenges Faced by the Frisco RoughRiders

The twinbill exposed both ends of the spectrum for Frisco (8-9): an offense stifled in the opener and a bullpen unable to hold a commanding lead in the nightcap. Tulsa (13-4), one of the Texas League’s hottest teams, capitalized in both contests to take control of the series.

Game one was defined by dominance on the mound. Tulsa left-hander Adam Serwinowski delivered a near-flawless performance, carrying a perfect game into the fifth inning and finishing with six shutout frames while allowing just two hits. The RoughRiders managed only two baserunners in the contest, never finding an offensive rhythm against a pitcher who dictated tempo from the outset.

The Drillers provided early support with a three-run first inning against Frisco starter Josh Trentadue, immediately seizing momentum and never relinquishing it. From there, Tulsa controlled the game with clean defense and efficient pitching, handing the RoughRiders their most lopsided offensive showing of the season.

If game one highlighted Frisco’s offensive struggles, game two initially suggested a dramatic turnaround.

After surrendering a first-inning run, the RoughRiders responded emphatically in the bottom half. Infielder Frainyer Chavez set the tone with a leadoff home run to right field, igniting a three-run inning that included a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Keith Jones II. The early burst snapped any lingering offensive drought and energized the home crowd.

Frisco continued to build momentum in the second and third innings. Orlando Martinez delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1 before Marcus Lee Sang and John Taylor launched back-to-back home runs to open the third, pushing the advantage to 6-1. At that point, the RoughRiders appeared firmly in control.

Starting pitcher Blake Townsend backed the offensive surge with a steady outing, allowing three earned runs over five innings while striking out six. His ability to limit damage kept Tulsa at bay through the middle innings and positioned Frisco for what seemed to be a bounce-back victory.

But the game shifted dramatically in the late innings.

Tulsa chipped away with a three-run sixth inning to pull even at 6-6, capitalizing on defensive lapses and timely hitting. The momentum swing proved decisive, as the Drillers continued to apply pressure into extra innings.

In the eighth, Tulsa delivered the knockout blow. Facing reliever Jonathan Brand, the Drillers erupted for six runs, turning a tied game into a decisive advantage. The rally underscored the volatility of minor league bullpens and highlighted the importance of late-game execution — an area that has challenged Frisco early this season.

Nick Robertson closed the door for Tulsa out of the bullpen, keeping the RoughRiders off the scoreboard and securing the doubleheader sweep.

Despite the losses, there were individual bright spots for Frisco. Chavez continued his standout month, launching his fifth home run of April while extending his on-base streak to 17 games — the longest active streak in the Texas League. His consistency at the plate has been a cornerstone for the RoughRiders’ offense.

Taylor’s power surge also continued, as his third home run of the season already surpasses his total from 2025, signaling growth and increased impact in the lineup.

Still, the overarching narrative of the night was missed opportunity. Frisco’s inability to generate offense in game one and protect a five-run lead in game two reflects a team still searching for consistency in all phases.

The RoughRiders will look to regroup and respond as the series continues Thursday night. Right-hander Winston Santos is slated to take the mound for Frisco against Tulsa’s Patrick Copen in a 6:35 p.m. CT first pitch.

For a team hovering around the .500 mark, the path forward is clear: capitalize on offensive opportunities, tighten late-game execution, and find a way to turn flashes of dominance into complete performances.
