MiLB Recap: Frisco RoughRiders Open Second Half With 20-Hit Attack in Win Over Amarillo

STWF Sports | AMARILLO, Texas | June 23, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders opened the second half of the Texas League season with the kind of offensive statement that can travel.

Behind a season-high 20 hits and a strong start from Aidan Curry, the RoughRiders defeated the Amarillo Sod Poodles 7-3 on Tuesday night at HODGETOWN. The win gave Frisco a 1-0 start to the second half and pushed the club to 40-29 overall after already clinching a postseason spot by winning the Texas League South Division first-half title.

Frisco’s offense did not break through immediately, but once the bats found rhythm, the pressure never really stopped. After three scoreless innings, the RoughRiders struck first in the fourth against Amarillo starter Daniel Eagen.

Marcus Lee Sang drove in the first run of the night, and Frainyer Chavez followed with another RBI to give Frisco a 2-0 lead. It was the kind of inning that set the tone for the Riders, who kept putting balls in play and forcing Amarillo to defend every part of the field.

The power arrived one inning later.

Frisco RoughRiders Dominating Offense

In the fifth, Malcolm Moore delivered one of the biggest swings of his young Double-A career, launching his first home run with Frisco to extend the lead to 3-0. The blast gave the RoughRiders breathing room and continued a night where several hitters contributed to the box score.

Frisco then broke the game open in the sixth. Chavez stayed hot with a two-run homer, and Rafe Perich followed with a two-run shot of his own, stretching the RoughRiders’ advantage to 7-0. For Perich, the long ball continued a strong power surge since joining Frisco. For Chavez, it added to a productive stretch that has helped drive the RoughRiders’ lineup through the final weeks of the first half and into the second.

The offensive depth was the headline, but Curry’s outing was just as important.

The right-hander gave Frisco six scoreless innings before running into trouble in the seventh. Even after allowing three runs, Curry still put together one of his most encouraging starts of the season. He set a career high in innings for a second consecutive outing, covering 6.2 frames while allowing just four hits and striking out five.

Curry’s ability to work deep into the game gave the RoughRiders exactly what they needed in a series opener. With Frisco’s offense building a large lead, he attacked the zone, limited traffic and kept Amarillo from generating sustained momentum until the seventh.

After the Sod Poodles trimmed the deficit to 7-3, the RoughRiders’ bullpen closed the door. Anthony Susac and Cole Stasio combined for scoreless relief, preventing Amarillo from turning the late push into a true threat.

The final numbers showed just how complete the opener was for Frisco. The RoughRiders collected 20 hits for the second time this season, and both 20-hit performances have come in series openers against Amarillo. Dylan Dreiling led the way with a career-high four hits, while four different Riders finished with at least three hits.

On the other side, Frisco pitching limited Amarillo to just four hits. It marked only the fifth time in RoughRiders franchise history that the club has allowed four or fewer hits in a game at HODGETOWN, a notable accomplishment in one of the league’s more hitter-friendly environments.

The victory also continued Frisco’s strong play in Amarillo, where the RoughRiders have often produced big offensive nights. Tuesday’s performance fit that history, but the balance made it stand out. The Riders hit for average, hit for power and paired the offensive surge with quality pitching.

After securing a playoff berth in the first half, Frisco now begins the second half with a clean slate and immediate momentum. The RoughRiders did not ease into the restart. They attacked it with 20 hits, three home runs and a strong start from Curry.

With a 1-0 series lead, Frisco will return to HODGETOWN on Wednesday night for game two. Left-hander Blake Townsend is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders against Amarillo left-hander Adonys Perez, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
