STWF Sports | MIDLAND, Texas | May 16, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders refused to let another close game slip away Saturday night.
Trailing entering the ninth inning, Frisco exploded for three late runs and stormed past the Midland RockHounds 7-5 at Momentum Bank Ballpark, securing one of the club’s most dramatic comeback victories of the season.
The win improved the RoughRiders to 19-18 overall and positioned Frisco for its first six-game series victory of the year heading into Sunday’s finale.
Once again, newly promoted slugger Arturo Disla found himself at the center of the action.
With Frisco trailing 5-4 in the top of the ninth inning, Disla delivered the biggest hit of the night, ripping a two-run triple into right field that completely flipped the game and silenced the Midland crowd.
The clutch swing capped another huge performance for the red-hot designated hitter, who continues making an immediate impact since arriving at the Double-A level.
“The Buffalo” now has at least one hit and one RBI in each of his first four games with Frisco, continuing a remarkable offensive surge that has quickly energized the RoughRiders lineup.
Saturday’s dramatic finish came after a back-and-forth battle throughout much of the evening.
Midland struck first in the opening inning against Frisco starter Leandro Lopez when Shane McGuire worked a bases-loaded walk to put the RockHounds ahead 1-0.
The RoughRiders responded immediately in the second inning.
Catcher Julian Brock crushed a towering two-run home run over the left-center field wall, driving home Marcus Lee Sang and giving Frisco a 2-1 lead.
The blast instantly became one of the season’s most jaw-dropping moments.
Exciting Moments from the Frisco RoughRiders Game
Brock’s homer traveled an estimated 475 feet — officially the longest home run hit by a RoughRiders player this season.
The momentum continued in the third inning when Keith Jones II lined an RBI single to score John Taylor and extend the Frisco lead to 3-1.
But Midland quickly answered.
RockHounds slugger Brennan Milone launched a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game before Midland grabbed a 4-3 advantage later when Cole Conn crossed home on a fielder’s choice.
The back-and-forth battle continued as both offenses created pressure throughout the middle innings.
Lopez settled in after the early damage and delivered one of his strongest strikeout performances of the season. The right-hander punched out nine Midland hitters across five innings of work while helping stabilize the game despite allowing multiple runs.
His strikeout total also contributed to another dominant night overall for the Frisco pitching staff.
For the second consecutive game, RoughRiders pitchers combined to strike out a season-high 15 batters, continuing an encouraging trend for a staff that has shown growing swing-and-miss ability during the Midland series.
Midland stretched its lead to 5-3 entering the seventh inning, but Frisco once again clawed back behind Jones II.
The versatile infielder drove home Taylor for the second time in the game, cutting the deficit to 5-4 and setting the stage for the late-inning comeback.
Meanwhile, reliever Ryan Lobus quietly delivered one of the game’s biggest performances out of the bullpen.
Lobus tossed two scoreless innings to keep Frisco within striking distance and eventually earned the victory after the RoughRiders rallied in the ninth.
Then came the decisive inning.
Facing Midland reliever Shohei Tomioka, Taylor worked a leadoff walk before Jones II smashed a double to immediately place the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position.
That brought Disla to the plate.
The 22-year-old slugger stayed patient before lifting a clutch triple into right field, bringing home both runners and giving Frisco a 6-5 lead.
Moments later, Keyber Rodriguez added insurance with a sacrifice fly that plated Disla and pushed the advantage to 7-5.
Closer Janser Lara handled the rest.
The right-hander struck out two hitters during a dominant ninth inning to secure his second save of the season and complete the comeback victory.
Now the RoughRiders head into Sunday afternoon with a chance to capture their first six-game series win of 2026.
Frisco is expected to send left-hander Dylan MacLean to the mound against Midland starter Henry Baez in the series finale.
And with the offense continuing to surge and Disla quickly becoming one of the hottest hitters in the Texas League, the RoughRiders suddenly appear to be finding their rhythm at the perfect time.
