STWF Sports | CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas | July 7, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders opened their road series at Whataburger Field with power, pitching and a comeback finish Tuesday night.
Frisco erased an early deficit and held off the Corpus Christi Hooks for a 3-2 win, improving to 7-6 in the second half and 46-35 overall. Corpus Christi dropped to 7-6 and 39-43.
The game was decided almost entirely by the long ball. All five runs came on home runs, but it was the RoughRiders’ pitching staff that owned the night. Aidan Curry tied his career high with 12 strikeouts, while Josh Trentadue dominated in relief as Frisco combined for 18 strikeouts, tying the franchise record for the most in a nine-inning game.
Corpus Christi struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. Will Bush jumped on Curry for a two-run homer, giving the Hooks a quick 2-0 lead and putting the RoughRiders in an early hole.
That swing ended up being the only real damage against Curry.
After the first inning, the right-hander settled into one of the sharpest outings of his professional career. Curry worked six innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out 12. He mixed swing-and-miss stuff with command, keeping the Hooks from extending the lead and giving Frisco’s offense time to respond.
The RoughRiders answered quickly.
The Resilient Frisco RoughRiders
In the top of the second, Marcus Lee Sang continued his strong run at the plate by launching a solo home run, his 10th of the season, to cut the deficit to 2-1. Lee Sang has been one of Frisco’s most timely bats in recent games, and his homer gave the RoughRiders momentum after Corpus Christi’s early punch.
Frisco then grabbed the lead in the same inning. Rafe Perich turned on a pitch from Nic Swanson and crushed a two-run home run down the left-field line, putting the RoughRiders ahead 3-2. The swing flipped the game and gave Curry a lead to protect.
From there, the night belonged to Frisco’s arms.
Curry kept attacking the zone and piling up strikeouts, preventing Corpus Christi from creating sustained rallies. The Hooks managed only three hits against him, and after Bush’s first-inning homer, Curry kept the ball in the yard and controlled the tempo.
When Curry’s night ended after six innings, Trentadue made sure the lead held.
The left-hander delivered three dominant innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one baserunner while striking out six. His effort closed the door on Corpus Christi and secured the win for Frisco. Trentadue improved to 3-2 with the victory, while Swanson took the loss for the Hooks, falling to 2-8.
The RoughRiders’ 18 total strikeouts came within one of the franchise record of 19 and matched the club’s nine-inning record. It was another showcase for a pitching staff that has leaned heavily on swing-and-miss production in recent weeks.
The win also continued Frisco’s success in Corpus Christi. The RoughRiders are now 7-3 at Whataburger Field this season, a ballpark where their offense has found power and their pitching has delivered some of its best work.
For Frisco, the victory was another example of a team that can win in different ways. The RoughRiders have been known for their offense, but Tuesday’s opener was built on precision pitching and two decisive swings. Lee Sang and Perich supplied the runs, while Curry and Trentadue handled everything else.
The result gives Frisco a strong start to the six-game series and keeps the club moving forward after splitting its previous set with Midland. The RoughRiders have already secured a postseason spot by winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, but the second half continues to give the team opportunities to build rhythm and sharpen its identity.
Tuesday’s win offered plenty to like: a comeback after an early deficit, two home runs, a career-level start from Curry and a lockdown finish from Trentadue.
The RoughRiders and Hooks continue the series Wednesday night at Whataburger Field. Left-hander Blake Townsend is scheduled to start for Frisco, entering at 3-4 with a 5.37 ERA. Corpus Christi will counter with right-hander Bryce Mayer, who comes in at 2-2 with a 3.56 ERA. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
