STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas |July 5, 2026 — One night after being quieted on the Fourth of July, the Frisco RoughRiders answered with the kind of offensive response that has defined much of their season.
Frisco battled back from an early deficit and held off a late Midland RockHounds rally for an 8-7 win Sunday night at Riders Field, securing a split of the six-game series. The victory moved the RoughRiders to 6-6 in the second half and 45-35 overall, while Midland fell to 8-4 and 40-40.
The win was an important reset for Frisco, which had been held to just one hit in Saturday’s 8-2 loss. On Sunday, the RoughRiders flipped the script with 13 hits, five doubles and eight unanswered runs after falling behind early.
Midland again struck first. Cole Conn continued the RockHounds’ early-series power surge by launching a first-inning home run off Frisco starter Dylan MacLean, giving Midland a 2-0 lead. The RockHounds added another run to push the advantage to 3-0, forcing the RoughRiders into comeback mode before their offense found a rhythm.
That rhythm arrived in the second inning.
Max Wagner delivered the first key swing for Frisco, ripping a two-run double off Midland starter Kenya Huggins to cut the deficit to 3-2. The hit gave the RoughRiders life after a frustrating night at the plate Saturday and started a stretch where the lineup applied pressure from top to bottom.
Frisco took control in the third inning with its biggest offensive push of the night.
Ian Moller drove in two runs with a double, putting the RoughRiders ahead 4-3. Dylan Dreiling followed with another double to bring in a run, and Julian Brock delivered the inning’s biggest blow with a three-run double. By the time the inning ended, Frisco had scored six runs in the frame and built an 8-3 lead.
The barrage of doubles highlighted the RoughRiders’ ability to create quick separation without relying solely on the home run. Frisco has been one of the most productive extra-base-hit teams in Double-A this season, and Sunday’s response showed the depth of the lineup when it strings together quality at-bats.
Rafe Perich was a major part of the offensive effort, finishing with three hits and a walk. Dreiling and Arturo Disla each reached base three times, helping Frisco keep traffic on the bases throughout the night.
The early support gave MacLean enough room to work through five innings. The left-hander allowed four runs but struck out four and earned the win, improving to 6-1 on the season. He was backed by a Frisco pitching staff that combined to strike out 14 Midland hitters.
Even with the lead, Midland refused to go quietly.
The RockHounds chipped away in the later innings and made things tense in the ninth. Dustin Saenz allowed two runs in the final frame, trimming Frisco’s lead to one and putting the potential tying and go-ahead runs aboard.
With the game on the line, Jonathan Brand entered and delivered the final answer. Brand recorded a strikeout to strand two runners and secure his second save of the season, closing out the 8-7 win and preserving the series split.
The late drama made the victory even more meaningful for Frisco, which needed a response after Midland controlled Saturday’s game in front of a franchise-record crowd. Sunday’s win showed resilience from a club that has already secured its postseason spot but continues to build momentum in the second half.
The RoughRiders clinched the Texas League South Division first-half title on June 18, earning their 11th playoff berth in franchise history. Still, performances like Sunday matter as Frisco works to sharpen its identity for the stretch ahead.
This win had several encouraging signs: a deep lineup response, extra-base power, strong swing-and-miss numbers from the pitching staff and a late save under pressure. It also allowed the RoughRiders to avoid dropping the series at home.
After splitting with Midland, Frisco will take Monday off before heading south to Corpus Christi for a six-game series against the Hooks. The series begins Tuesday, July 7, at 6:35 p.m. from Whataburger Field.
For the RoughRiders, Sunday was not just a series-saving win. It was a reminder that even after a quiet night, this lineup can roar back fast.
