STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | May 8, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders nearly erased another late deficit Friday night, but the comeback came up just short in a 6-5 loss to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at Riders Field.
After rallying for a dramatic walk-off victory one night earlier, Frisco once again showed its offensive resilience late in the game. However, a rough second inning proved too much to overcome as the Naturals evened the series at two games apiece.
Why Fans Love the Frisco RoughRiders
Northwest Arkansas immediately capitalized against RoughRiders starter Leandro Lopez, breaking the game open during a five-run second inning fueled by a pair of home runs.
Connor Scott delivered the first major blow with a two-run shot before Carson Roccaforte added another two-run homer later in the frame to give the Naturals a commanding early lead.
Lopez, who entered the night searching for his first victory of the season, struggled to contain Northwest Arkansas’ aggressive approach during the inning. The right-hander ultimately fell to 0-2 on the year after allowing six runs across his outing.
Despite the difficult inning, the RoughRiders bullpen helped stabilize the game and kept Frisco within striking distance throughout the later innings.
Relievers Janser Lara and Jonathan Brand combined for 5.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, giving the offense an opportunity to slowly chip away at the deficit.
Lara delivered 2.1 shutout innings while Brand followed with three scoreless frames of his own, continuing a recent stretch of strong bullpen performances for Frisco.
The RoughRiders first got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning.
With runners on base, Marcus Lee Sang beat out an infield RBI single to bring home Frisco’s first run of the night and trim the deficit to 5-1.
However, Northwest Arkansas answered immediately in the third inning with another run, extending the advantage to 6-1 and once again silencing the Riders Field crowd.
For much of the night, Frisco struggled to generate sustained offense against Naturals starter Hunter Patteson.
The left-hander worked five innings to earn the victory for Northwest Arkansas, navigating through several potential trouble spots while limiting the RoughRiders’ dangerous lineup.
Still, Frisco refused to go quietly.
The RoughRiders finally began generating momentum late in the game as their offense mounted another comeback attempt.
In the eighth inning, Keyber Rodriguez continued his strong season by driving in a run with a groundout to make it 6-2. Rodriguez has consistently remained one of Frisco’s most reliable offensive contributors this season and once again delivered in a key spot.
Then came the ninth inning.
With the Riders trailing by four runs and down to their final outs, Lee Sang ignited the stadium by crushing a three-run home run to suddenly pull Frisco within a single run at 6-5.
The blast marked Lee Sang’s sixth home run of the season, tying him with Corey Joyce for the team lead.
The outfielder continues emerging as one of the hottest hitters in the Texas League, combining power production with consistent offensive pressure throughout the lineup.
Frisco’s late surge brought the tying run into scoring position and briefly created another potential comeback moment at Riders Field.
But Northwest Arkansas closer Augusto Mendieta managed to secure the final two outs and record his first save of the season, ending the RoughRiders’ rally before it could fully materialize.
Even in defeat, the game once again showcased the offensive depth that has made Frisco one of the most dangerous lineups in Double-A baseball during the early part of the 2026 season.
The RoughRiders continue to display an ability to generate offense quickly and remain competitive late in games regardless of the score.
Now, with the series tied 2-2, Saturday night’s matchup becomes increasingly important as both teams attempt to seize momentum entering the final stretch of the six-game set.
Frisco is scheduled to send left-hander Dylan MacLean to the mound Saturday night against Northwest Arkansas right-hander Henry Williams in a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Riders Field.
Saturday’s contest will also feature Kids Run the Bases Postgame festivities presented by Raising Cane’s, adding another family-focused atmosphere to what is shaping up as a pivotal game in the series.
