MiLB Recap: Lee Sang Powers Frisco RoughRiders to Shutout Win Over Midland

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | July 3, 2026— On the night before the Fourth of July, the Frisco RoughRiders gave the Riders Field crowd plenty to celebrate.

Behind a four-RBI performance from Marcus Lee Sang and a combined shutout from the pitching staff, Frisco blanked the Midland RockHounds 4-0 on Friday night to even the six-game series at two games apiece.

The win moved the RoughRiders to 5-5 in the second half and 44-34 overall, while Midland dropped to 7-3 and 39-39. After dropping two of the first three games in the series, Frisco answered with one of its cleanest all-around performances of the homestand.

Key Players for the Frisco RoughRiders

Dalton Pence set the tone on the mound. The left-hander opened with two scoreless innings and worked into the fifth, giving the RoughRiders the stable start they needed after a bullpen-heavy week. Pence finished with 4.2 scoreless innings and six strikeouts, keeping Midland off balance and preventing the RockHounds from building early pressure.

Frisco’s offense did not need long to give him support.

In the bottom of the second inning, Lee Sang delivered the first major swing of the night. Facing Midland starter Jackson Finley, he turned on a pitch and launched a two-run home run to put the RoughRiders ahead 2-0. The blast energized the dugout and gave Frisco the early cushion that had been missing in Thursday’s loss.

Lee Sang was not finished.

In the fourth inning, he came through again, this time driving a two-run double to stretch the lead to 4-0. With one swing, he gave the RoughRiders all the offense they would need. Lee Sang accounted for every Frisco run, finishing with four RBIs and recording his third game this season with at least four driven in.

For a Frisco lineup that has leaned heavily on power and late-game offense throughout the season, Friday’s win was more efficient than explosive. The Riders did not need a long list of contributors on the scoreboard because Lee Sang handled the run production and the pitching staff handled everything else.

Pence worked around traffic and stayed sharp through the middle innings. His six strikeouts helped keep Midland from creating sustained rallies, and his ability to pitch into the fifth gave Frisco a strong bridge to the bullpen.

Once the ball was handed over, the RoughRiders’ relievers closed the door.

Austin Roberts, Jonathan Brand and Eric Loomis combined for scoreless relief and added eight strikeouts. The bullpen allowed just two hits and two walks on the night, continuing one of the club’s strongest season-long trends. Frisco’s relief group has consistently been one of the best units in the Texas League, and Friday’s performance offered another reminder of how quickly the Riders can shorten a game once they take a lead.

Roberts earned the win, improving to 3-2. Brand and Loomis followed with sharp work, limiting contact and keeping Midland from finding any late momentum.

The shutout was especially meaningful after Midland had scored 10 runs in Thursday’s game. The RockHounds struck early in that contest and pulled away late, but Frisco’s pitchers responded with command, swing-and-miss stuff and clean execution.

Midland starter Jackson Finley took the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing the early damage from Lee Sang. The RockHounds were unable to produce the big inning that had carried them earlier in the series.

The result leaves the series tied with two games remaining, setting up a big holiday weekend at Riders Field. Frisco has already clinched a postseason berth after winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, but the RoughRiders continue to chase rhythm and momentum in the second half.

Friday’s win gave them both.

Lee Sang supplied the fireworks before the actual holiday, and the pitching staff made sure the lead stood all night. For a team that has shown it can win with power, late rallies and high-scoring games, this was a different kind of statement: clean pitching, timely hitting and complete control.

The RoughRiders return to action Saturday night on the Fourth of July. Frisco will send right-hander Ben Anderson to the mound against Midland right-hander Henry Baez. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Riders Field.
