MiLB Recap: Missions Power Past Frisco RoughRiders in High-Scoring Series Opener at Riders Field

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | May 19, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders entered Tuesday afternoon riding momentum from their first six-game series victory of the season, but the San Antonio Missions quickly cooled off Frisco’s hot streak with an offensive barrage at Riders Field.

Behind four home runs and a fast offensive start, San Antonio defeated the RoughRiders 12-6 in the opening game of the six-game series during Education Day festivities in front of a lively midday crowd.

The loss dropped Frisco to 20-19 on the season after the club had won four of six games last week against Midland.

Understanding the Impact of the Frisco RoughRiders on the Texas League

Despite another productive offensive performance from several key hitters, the RoughRiders could not overcome an early power surge from the Missions lineup.

San Antonio wasted little time attacking Frisco starter Josh Trentadue.

After a pair of baserunners reached in the opening inning, Missions infielder Braedon Karpathios crushed a three-run home run to immediately put Frisco in an early 3-0 deficit.

But the RoughRiders answered right away.

Frisco’s offense, which has emerged as one of the most dangerous units in the Texas League over the past month, responded with three runs of its own in the bottom half of the first inning against San Antonio starter Omar Cruz.

Infielder Keyber Rodriguez delivered another clutch hit with a two-run single, continuing his impressive season at the plate before Marcus Lee Sang followed with an RBI base hit to tie the game 3-3.

For a moment, the RoughRiders appeared ready to continue the offensive momentum they carried home from Midland.

Then the long ball struck again.

San Antonio regained control in the second inning behind back-to-back home runs from Albert Fabian and Francisco Acuna, both coming off Trentadue.

The Missions added another run later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from highly regarded Padres prospect Ethan Salas, stretching the advantage to 6-3.

San Antonio continued adding pressure offensively throughout the afternoon.

After extending the lead to 7-3 in the third inning, the Missions later received another solo home run from Kai Roberts in the sixth before breaking the game open during a three-run eighth inning.

Roberts also contributed an RBI double during the late rally as the Missions pushed the lead to 11-4 and effectively put the game out of reach.

Still, Frisco’s offense continued fighting late.

The RoughRiders got one run back in the fourth inning when Keith Jones II lifted a sacrifice fly to center field.

Then in the eighth inning, Frisco showcased more of the power that has fueled the club’s offensive breakout in recent weeks.

Newly promoted slugger Arturo Disla launched a solo home run — his first homer at Riders Field since arriving in Double-A — before Rodriguez followed with another solo blast later in the inning.

Disla continues making an immediate impact in the middle of Frisco’s lineup.

Through just six Double-A games, “The Buffalo” already owns two home runs and 10 RBIs while consistently producing hard contact and timely hits. His offensive emergence has added yet another dangerous bat to a lineup already ranked near the top of the Texas League in runs, batting average and OPS.

Rodriguez remained one of the brightest spots offensively Tuesday.

The infielder finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, recording his 16th multi-hit game of the season while continuing to establish himself as one of the most consistent hitters in Double-A baseball.

Rodriguez currently leads the Texas League in hits and has become one of the catalysts behind Frisco’s league-leading offense.

Disla and outfielder Dylan Dreiling also recorded two-hit performances in the loss.

While Frisco’s offense once again showed its ability to score in bunches, the pitching staff struggled to contain San Antonio’s aggressive approach at the plate.

The Missions finished with four home runs and consistently capitalized on mistakes over the middle of the zone, spoiling what had been a strong stretch for the RoughRiders pitching staff during last week’s series victory in Midland.

Now Frisco will look to regroup quickly as the series continues Wednesday night.

The RoughRiders are scheduled to send left-hander Blake Townsend to the mound against San Antonio lefty Jagger Haynes during Wine Wednesday at Riders Field.

And after one explosive afternoon from the Missions offense, the RoughRiders know they will need a cleaner performance on the mound if they hope to get back in the win column.
