Exploring the Rise of the Frisco RoughRiders

STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | April 25, 2026 — Adversity came early, but resilience carried the night for the Frisco RoughRiders, who stormed back to defeat the Tulsa Drillers 6-5 in a weather-shortened contest at Riders Field.

The victory, awarded after a fifth-inning delay halted play for good, evened Frisco’s record at 10-10 and marked the club’s second consecutive win in the series. More importantly, it showcased a team beginning to find its footing after a slow start earlier in the week.

Tulsa (14-6) wasted no time applying pressure. Facing RoughRiders starter Dylan MacLean, the Drillers erupted for four runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Griffin Lockwood-Powell. The early deficit placed Frisco in a familiar position — trailing — but unlike earlier in the series, the response was immediate and decisive.

In the bottom half of the inning, the RoughRiders flipped the game on its head without relying on an abundance of hits. Patience at the plate proved critical, as Tulsa starter Wyatt Crowell struggled with command, issuing three walks and hitting a batter to load the bases.

Keith Jones II capitalized on the opportunity, lining a two-run single through the right side to ignite the rally. Moments later, Orlando Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly to even the score, setting the stage for Marcus Lee Sang. The outfielder delivered the biggest swing of the inning, driving a two-run single back up the middle to give Frisco a 6-4 lead.

In a matter of minutes, the RoughRiders transformed a four-run deficit into a two-run advantage, underscoring their ability to generate offense through discipline and timely hitting.

From there, the focus shifted to the mound. After a rocky first inning, MacLean settled into a rhythm, demonstrating composure and control over the next several frames. The left-hander worked 4.2 innings, allowing just one additional run while matching his season high with six strikeouts. His ability to limit further damage proved critical in preserving the lead.

Tulsa managed to chip away, but Frisco’s pitching staff held firm when it mattered most. The game’s turning point, however, came not from a pitch or swing, but from the weather.

Following the conclusion of the fifth inning, a storm system moved into the area, forcing a delay. With Frisco leading and having completed the minimum required innings for an official game, the contest was ultimately called, awarding the RoughRiders a 6-5 victory.

While unconventional, the result reflected the work done earlier in the game. Frisco’s ability to respond quickly to adversity and execute in key moments ensured that the outcome would stand.

The early offensive surge has become a notable trend. Over the past two games, the RoughRiders have scored 10 runs in the first inning alone, demonstrating an aggressive approach that has paid dividends. Interestingly, Saturday’s six-run outburst came on just two hits, highlighting the impact of plate discipline and situational execution.

Individually, Lee Sang continued his strong stretch at the plate, delivering another key hit in a series of impactful performances. Martinez and Jones also contributed to the offensive turnaround, reinforcing the depth of a lineup that has begun to regain its confidence.

With back-to-back wins, the RoughRiders now find themselves in position to salvage a series split after dropping the first three games. The opportunity to even the series adds significance to Sunday’s finale, where Frisco will turn to right-hander David Davalillo in pursuit of another victory.

Beyond the standings, the recent turnaround signals a shift in momentum. After early struggles, the RoughRiders have shown resilience, adaptability, and the ability to capitalize on opportunities — qualities that will be essential as the season progresses.

As the series concludes, Frisco carries renewed confidence and a chance to complete the comeback, proving that even in unpredictable conditions, momentum can be built — and maintained.
