MLS Recap: Heart Over Result as FC Dallas Shows Fight without Musa in 2-1 Loss to Seattle FC

MLS Soccer match score, Seattle wins 2-1 vs FC Dallas

STWF Sports | SEATTLE, Washington | April 25, 2026 — A spirited performance on the road ultimately came up just short for FC Dallas, which fell 2-1 to Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday night at Lumen Field.

FC Dallas: A Team on the Rise

Despite the result, the match featured several notable milestones and encouraging signs for a Dallas side continuing to develop under head coach Eric Quill. Most notably, Homegrown defender Nolan Norris delivered a breakthrough moment, scoring his first career MLS goal to keep Dallas within striking distance.

Seattle (6-1-1, 19 points) capitalized on key stretches of momentum, while Dallas (3-3-4, 13 points) showcased resilience and flashes of quality, particularly from its younger core.

The Sounders struck first, taking advantage of a brief lapse in Dallas’ defensive structure. A quick sequence in the opening half allowed Seattle to find the breakthrough, putting the visitors on the back foot early in one of MLS’ most challenging environments.

Dallas, however, responded with composure. In the 40th minute, Norris etched his name into the score sheet, rising on a corner kick delivery to bury his first MLS goal. The moment marked a significant milestone not only for the young defender but also for the club’s development pipeline. Norris became the first Homegrown player to score for Dallas in league play since September 2024, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to nurturing talent from within.

The goal shifted momentum heading into halftime, giving Dallas renewed belief after weathering Seattle’s early pressure.

Goalkeeper Michael Collodi provided another highlight, delivering a crucial penalty-kick save — the first of his MLS career. The stop kept Dallas within reach and demonstrated the composure of a young goalkeeper continuing to grow into his role.

Seattle, however, proved decisive in key moments. The Sounders converted their opportunities during a critical stretch, regaining the lead and ultimately holding firm despite sustained pressure from Dallas in the latter stages.

For Dallas, the match was also defined by lineup rotation and youth integration. Defender Lalas Abubakar made his 200th MLS regular-season appearance, anchoring a back line that included several players earning increased responsibility. Midfielders Samuel Sarver and Ran Binyamin, along with forward Nicholas Simmonds, all made their first starts of the season, highlighting the club’s willingness to invest in emerging talent.

Simmonds, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, and Binyamin, a recent international acquisition, each showed flashes of promise as they adjusted to the demands of MLS competition. Their inclusion reflected a broader strategy centered on long-term growth while remaining competitive in the present.

Following the match, Quill emphasized both the positives and the areas for improvement.

“Obviously disappointed about the result, but I thought we played pretty well,” Quill said. “We’re going to regret a couple moments that led to their goals. Those moments are fixable. I was proud of our mentality, our resiliency. We never gave up.”

Norris echoed that sentiment, balancing personal achievement with team disappointment.

“It’s awesome to get the goal,” Norris said. “I want to contribute to the team the best way I can. But the result is what matters most. We fought for the badge, and we came up short.”

The loss underscores the fine margins Dallas must navigate, particularly on the road. While the team demonstrated the ability to compete with one of the Western Conference’s top sides, lapses in concentration proved costly.

Looking ahead, FC Dallas will turn its focus to another road test against the New York Red Bulls on May 4. The performance in Seattle, though not rewarded with points, offered a foundation to build upon — especially as the club continues to integrate young players into meaningful roles.

For Dallas, the takeaway is clear: growth is evident, but execution in critical moments remains the difference between competitive performances and tangible results.
