STWF Sports | ARLINGTON, Texas | May 15, 2026 — The Dallas Renegades will take part in one of the most historic moments in spring football history Friday night when they face the Orlando Storm inside Phantom Warrior Stadium at Fort Hood.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT as part of FOX UFL Friday, but this matchup carries far greater meaning than just another regular-season game.
For the first time ever, a professional football game will be played on an active United States military installation.
The groundbreaking event serves as the centerpiece of the United Football League’s league-wide “Hats Off To Heroes” initiative, honoring active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families throughout the month of May.
The Impact of the Dallas Renegades on Spring Football
Friday’s crowd will consist entirely of service members and their families, with free admission granted to anyone with access to the installation on a first-come, first-served basis.
The atmosphere is expected to create one of the most unique and emotional environments the UFL has seen since the league launched.
“The entire UFL family is thrilled to show its gratitude to our service men and women by playing a game at Fort Hood,” said Russ Brandon, UFL President and CEO. “As our nation celebrates its 250th birthday, we wanted to find a way to honor the dedication and sacrifice of our armed forces.”
The significance of the event extends well beyond football.
Throughout the month, UFL organizations have participated in military appreciation programs, local hero recognitions and community outreach efforts designed to connect players and fans with those who serve.
But Friday’s matchup in Central Texas elevates that mission to an entirely different level.
Fort Hood officials embraced the opportunity immediately.
“We are beyond excited to host the UFL’s first game on a military installation,” said Kevin D. Admiral, commanding general of III Armored Corps and Fort Hood. “The UFL and Fort Hood share lots in common, especially a passion for sports and competition.”
While the historic setting will dominate national attention, the football itself also carries importance for Dallas.
The Renegades continue building momentum during a strong 2026 campaign under first-year head coach Rick Neuheisel.
Dallas has emerged as one of the UFL’s most explosive offensive teams behind breakout quarterback Austin Reed, whose emergence has completely transformed the Renegades offense.
Reed burst onto the scene earlier this season after Neuheisel made the bold decision to start the young quarterback over veteran spring football star Luis Perez.
The gamble immediately paid off.
In his UFL debut, Reed shattered the league’s single-game regular-season passing record with 376 yards against the Houston Gamblers while throwing three touchdowns and committing zero turnovers. His performance instantly established him as one of the UFL’s rising stars.
Since then, Dallas has continued developing one of the league’s most balanced attacks.
Wide receiver Tyler Vaughns has become Reed’s top target after posting record-setting receiving numbers earlier this season, while explosive playmakers such as Dae Dae Hunter and Greg Ward continue stretching defenses in space.
The Renegades offense has consistently pressured opponents vertically while also improving protection up front after early-season concerns along the offensive line.
Defensively, Dallas has shown flashes of becoming one of the more physical units in the league.
The Renegades defense forced key takeaways during multiple wins earlier this season and has improved its ability to create pressure in critical moments.
Friday’s challenge against Orlando, however, presents another important test.
The Storm enter the matchup looking to spoil Dallas’ historic evening while keeping pace in the playoff race. Orlando’s aggressive defensive front and athletic secondary have caused problems for opposing offenses throughout the season.
For Dallas, maintaining offensive rhythm early will be critical, especially in an emotionally charged environment unlike anything most players have experienced.
The unique atmosphere could also provide a major emotional boost for the Renegades.
Dallas has already embraced a growing connection with military communities this season, and Friday’s setting offers players an opportunity to perform in front of service members whose sacrifices extend far beyond sports.
Neuheisel has repeatedly emphasized the importance of representing something larger than football throughout the season.
Friday night, that message becomes reality.
Under the lights at Phantom Warrior Stadium, the Renegades will not only attempt to strengthen their playoff positioning — they will also participate in a landmark event honoring the nation’s military while helping write a new chapter in professional football history.
