STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | April 26, 2026 — A night that began with opportunity quickly unraveled for the Dallas Renegades, who fell 47–25 to the Louisville Kings in their final home game of the 2026 season at Toyota Stadium.
The Dallas Renegades’ Journey This Season
The loss drops Dallas to 3–2 on the season, while Louisville delivered one of the most dominant performances of the year, fueled by opportunistic defense and a record-setting night from running back Ian Wheeler.
From the opening drive, the tone was set. Dallas struggled to establish rhythm offensively, stalling on its first possession and handing early momentum to Louisville. The Kings capitalized quickly, moving the ball efficiently before settling for a 38-yard field goal to take the initial lead.
The turning point came shortly after — and it came fast.
Quarterback Austin Reed, who had been steady through the early part of the season, ran into immediate trouble. Louisville’s defense flipped the game in a matter of plays, beginning with an 83-yard interception return for a touchdown by Bryce Hall. On Reed’s very next pass, Corey Mayfield Jr. picked him off again, setting up another short-field opportunity that Ian Wheeler converted into a touchdown.
In a span of minutes, the Renegades found themselves in a 16-0 hole.
To their credit, Dallas responded with one of its most methodical drives of the night. Reed engineered a 14-play, 68-yard march, leaning on running back Ellis Merriweather, who accounted for key yardage before punching in a one-yard touchdown to cut into the deficit.
However, Louisville answered before halftime with a composed two-minute drive, extending the lead to 19-7 and maintaining control heading into the break.
Dallas showed signs of life early in the second half. After a defensive stand led by Willie Taylor III, Reed connected with tight end Curtis Hodges on a 25-yard touchdown strike, trimming the deficit and injecting energy into the home crowd.
But any momentum was short-lived.
Louisville’s offense, led by quarterback Rogers, responded immediately with a balanced drive capped by Wheeler’s second touchdown of the night. The Kings’ ability to answer every Dallas push proved decisive, as they consistently controlled the pace and capitalized on mistakes.
Turnovers continued to haunt the Renegades. Reed threw his third interception of the game, again to Mayfield Jr., and Louisville wasted no time turning the takeaway into points. Wheeler added his third rushing touchdown, pushing the Kings beyond the 30-point mark — with the majority of their scoring fueled by Dallas miscues.
The defensive onslaught didn’t stop there. Antonio Grier delivered another crushing blow with a 46-yard pick-six, extending Louisville’s lead and effectively putting the game out of reach.
Despite the deficit, Dallas continued to compete. Reed found Hodges on a 63-yard connection to set up another Merriweather touchdown, showcasing the team’s offensive potential when executing cleanly. But a failed conversion attempt kept the margin insurmountable.
Wheeler ultimately sealed the game with his fourth touchdown, setting a new UFL single-game record and capping a dominant performance for Louisville.
Individually, Merriweather was a bright spot for Dallas, totaling 188 all-purpose yards, while Hodges led the receiving corps with 88 yards and a touchdown. Reed finished with 195 passing yards and one touchdown but was undone by multiple turnovers.
Defensively, Taylor provided pressure with two sacks, and the secondary, led by Ajene Harris and Tra Fluellen, contributed with solid tackling efforts.
For Dallas, the story of the night was clear: turnovers and missed opportunities against a team that capitalized at every turn.
As the Renegades shift focus to their next matchup, the lesson is equally clear — protecting the football and executing in key moments will be essential moving forward.
The home finale may not have delivered the desired result, but the path ahead remains in Dallas’ control as they look to regroup and respond in the weeks to come.
