WNBA Preview: Dallas Wings Visit Golden State Valkyries in Final Commissioner’s Cup Test

STWF Sports | SAN FRANCISCO | June 17, 2026  — The Dallas Wings will close out their Commissioner’s Cup schedule Wednesday night with a road matchup against the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center, bringing together two teams sitting in nearly identical positions entering the middle stretch of the season.

Dallas and Golden State both enter the game at 9-5 overall and 4-2 in Commissioner’s Cup play, making Wednesday’s matchup an important measuring stick for two clubs looking to stay near the top of the league standings. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. CT, with the game airing locally in the Dallas-Fort Worth market on KFAA. Ron Thulin will handle play-by-play duties alongside analyst Fran Harris.

The Wings come into San Francisco with momentum after one of their most complete performances of the season. Dallas routed the Las Vegas Aces 96-66 on Monday night in front of a sold-out crowd at College Park Center, snapping Las Vegas’ six-game winning streak and handing the Aces their second loss of the season to the Wings.

The 30-point victory was the largest margin of victory for Dallas in Wings-Aces series history and pushed the Wings to 9-5. It also served as a strong response after Dallas had dropped a narrow one-point road game to the Portland Fire two nights earlier.

Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with a game-high 22 points against Las Vegas, setting the offensive tone while helping Dallas control the pace. The Wings had five players score in double figures, showing the kind of balance that has made them dangerous when the ball moves and multiple players are involved.

Jessica Shepard continued her outstanding season with another near triple-double. Shepard finished with 15 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists, coming up one assist short of what would have been her third triple-double of the year. Earlier this season, Shepard recorded a historic 22-point, 20-rebound, 10-assist triple-double against the Aces, and her ability to impact the game as a scorer, rebounder and facilitator remains one of Dallas’ biggest advantages.

The Wings will need that same versatility against Golden State, especially on the road. Dallas finished the 2025 regular-season series against the Valkyries with a 1-3 record and will be seeking its first win at Chase Center on Wednesday night.

Golden State has been strong at home this season, entering the matchup with a 6-2 record at Chase Center, tied with the Minnesota Lynx for the best home mark in the WNBA. That home-court edge gives the Valkyries another layer of confidence as they look to defend their floor and close Commissioner’s Cup play on a high note.

The Valkyries are also coming off a convincing win. Golden State defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 78-58 on Monday night at Chase Center, using a strong defensive performance to control the game. Gabby Williams led the Valkyries with 16 points, while Kaila Charles gave Golden State a lift off the bench with 13 points.

For Dallas, the keys will start with tempo, rebounding and defensive discipline. The Wings looked sharp against Las Vegas, limiting turnovers, pushing the ball with purpose and getting contributions throughout the rotation. Carrying that same focus into a road environment will be critical against a Golden State team that has consistently played well in San Francisco.

Ogunbowale’s shot-making remains central to the Wings’ offense, but Dallas is at its best when Shepard is operating as a hub and players such as Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd and Aziaha James are creating rhythm around her. When the Wings are efficient offensively and active defensively, they have shown they can compete with any team in the league.

Wednesday’s matchup also gives Dallas an opportunity to build on a statement win and continue stacking results during a demanding stretch of the schedule. The Wings are wrapping up five games in nine days, making energy, execution and bench production especially important.

Golden State will present a tough test, particularly inside Chase Center, but Dallas enters with confidence after overpowering one of the league’s top teams. With both clubs carrying matching records and identical Commissioner’s Cup marks, Wednesday night has the feel of a game that could say plenty about where each team stands moving forward.
